TROUTMAN RECOVERS FROM A HARSH OPENING WEEKEND TO WIN AT ALLEGANY CO. SPEEDWAY.

Matt Felten
CUMBERLAND, Md. (April 17) - D.J. Troutman recovered from a harsh opening weekend to show the field he can pick up where he left off last season with a win on Saturday night at The Rock, Allegany County Speedway.

In the opening round of The Rock/Bedford (Pa.) Speedway Shootout, Troutman was in command for the entire feature. He was celebrated along with four other winners. Mike Desch and Jimmy Moreland won the stock car features. Jason Riggleman topped the 4-Cylinder field and Bill Brown Sr. was the Classic Racing Series winner.

Troutman, who was involved in two crashes last weekend, took off from the pole and was never contested until a late caution. The defending champion, and eight-time feature winner last season, outpaced Matt Sponaugle, Barry Miller, Daniel Cornman, and Matt Howsare to the finish line.

Sponaugle was the driver on the move since coming from the seventh position at the start. After a caution on the second lap, Sponaugle picked up five spots through lap 16. He was up to fourth by lap four and made a move on Miller for third on lap eight.

By the time Sponaugle got second from Daniel Cornman on lap 16, Troutman had already pulled away by a straightaway. But a caution tightened the race with two laps remaining.

Troutman wasn't fazed by losing his lead and still won by six car lengths.
