WEAVER, ARP SPLIT LAMAR LOWRY MEMORIAL FEATURES AT CLEVELAND SPEEDWAY

Steve Hixson
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (April 10) - The Cleveland (TN) Speedway hosted the annual LAMAR LOWRY MEMORIAL event Saturday night, with twin $1,000 to-WIN Super Late Model races. In the land where CAR COUNTS are KING, sixteen (16) SLM's signed in for battle with Randy THE DREAM Weaver setting fast time in qualifying. The Crossville, TN native clocked his #116 "BKW Disaster Relief, Ellis Contracting, Byrd's Radiator" sponsored Bloomquist / Race Engine Design powered racecar to a tune of 13:334 seconds earning the pole for the first 22 lap feature. It was Jake Knowles second fast time that would earn him the "CAT-BIRDS SEAT" and the Tyrone, GA racer would rocket into the lead at the drop of the green flag. SHORTY Keith Frazier and Todd Morrow would tangle on lap one, when Glenn Seaton III stalled going down the back-stretch. After the restart, Weaver began pressuring Knowles and by lap 5 traffic was beginning to factor. Once again Knowles hung out to dry attempting to pass Joey Standridge, when the TEAM ZERO machine charged by, for what would be the winning pass. Knowles troubles wouldn't end there as he would bring out the (next to) final caution 5 laps from the end. Unable to continue (or begin the next feature) Knowles was done with an official unlucky 13th place. Riley Hickman inherited the runner up nod and kept Skip Arp behind him til the checkers.

Race #2 (23 laps - which totalled 45 Lamar Lowry's car #) saw Weaver draw an four (4) on the invert giving Arp the pole with Riley Hickman along side. Minus Frazier and Knowles, Hickman would lead (again from the CAT-BIRDS SEAT) with Arp and Weaver battling for second. Brad Allen reared the first caution on lap 6, stalling on the front straight-away as Billy Mayo (whom finished 4th in race #1) called it a night. On the restart it seemed Hickman wouldn't be denied, but again back-marker traffic hit hard, this time on unlucky lap 13. Hickman trying to dig under Seaton and Andy Standridge spun in turn four. Restarting back in the lead it wouldn't take Arp much to work past Hickmans slightly damaged steed. Weaver would also pass Hickman and had about 10 laps to work on Arp, but the SKIPPER affirmed to be too strong and took the victory. In victory lane Arp confirmed after climbing out of the #31 "Curtis Equipment Sales, Christenberry Trucking & Farm, Stanley Best Heating & Air" GRT / Vic Hill powered racecar, what it meant to win his neighbor and most importantly friends memorial event. "They were great friends and we miss Lamar tremendiously, winning one of these races means alot to us." commented Arp. By virtue of finishing 2nd in the 2nd feature race Weaver earned the $200 high point bonus, en-total pocketing $1,900. Arp banked $1,400 for his efforts, with Hickman talleying an $1,100 payday.

In other racing action; Bobby Mayse ended BP Brian Pritchard's winning streak at three pocketing the $600 payday. Mayse out his #22 "Mayse Construction Co." racecar in victory lane, leading Pritchard all the way in the 20 lap LLM/Crate feature. Bobby Doss, Kenny Kizzar and Michael Combs rounded out the Top 5, with seven (7) others finishing in the division. In the A-Hobby it was Dustin Cansler taking the win over Richard Dixon, Robbie Greene, John Clark and Raymond Brown. Seemed no-one wanted the victory in the B-Hobby "HEAVY METAL MONSTERS of the MIDWAY" division. Shane Nunley (aka. Lightning McQueen) won the feature. BJ Wilson was second with Brandon Wright, Sonny Graves and Eric Hughes following. The Pony's raced a doozie as Daniel Burnette put his # 3 Chat-town Radiator racecar in victory lane. Burnette survived a last ditch *and I mean DITCH*) effort from Jimmy "J" Elliott. Losing the runner-up spot Elliott spun in 3-n-4 attempting to power-slide the leader. Mike Truelove, Tim Duggard, Elliott and Nathan Hair rounded out the Top 5. Brad Cross took the final race of the night laying claim to the FWD 12 lap finale. Steve WRONG-WAY Boyd and Richard Hickman followed Cross.
