Boyd's Speedway RINGGOLD, Ga. (April 9) - Well with the cool air of spring all around it still couldn't cool off the heated battles at Boyd's Speedway tonight. With over 70 cars coming to challenge for the top prize in their respective classes, we started with a little humor at first. With Co-Owner Richard Harvey taking a brief stay as the Flagman while the full-time flagman was called to the scoring tower, someone said throw the yellow and he did just that, he threw the yellow. He could only stand and watch as the yellow flag landed on the dirt surface below was wondering if anyone would have anything for the #48 of Ronnie. In the first of two B-HOBBY heats # 21 Labron Miller battled the #8 of Brandon Francis for the chance to start on the pole of their Featrure Race. Labron Miller held off Brandon Francis and the # 01 of Alvin Sewell. In HEAT RACE #2 everyone Brooks, the question was answered early as Ronnie Brooks took command and went on the finish first followed by #77 BJ Wilson and #15 Jacob Stewart.
Next up would be the every competitive CRATE Division, Pole sitter #118 Todd Stadfford along side the #30 of Jerry Coffman they would bring the field to the green flag. Jerry Coffman took the early lead while the hard charging #72 of Robby Mason set his sites of the back bumper of the #30. But with two laps left the #99 driven by Todd Morrow spoiled the finish for Mr. Mason sending him back to third. In the second CRATE HEAT outside polesitter #23 Craig Burrows took the early lead only to see last weeks winner take that lead away on the third lap by #16 Rex Richey. They would go on to finish first and second followed by the #27 of James Gamble. In A HOBBY it saw the Brooks family take both wins in their Heats. With the son #148 Booger Brooks wining the first and father #48 Arva Brooks wining the second. Next up was the Top-Dogs the Steel-Headed Late Models, starting from the pole the #B5 of Todd Hernandez just said goodbye to the rest of the field. Outside polesitter #B4 of Brian Jackson would settle for second followed by the #17M of Andy Miller. In Heat Race #2 last weeks second place finisher #29 Jason Welshan would lead #00 Jeff Smith and T22 of Mike Tinker to the checkered flag. In the final Heats of the night Front-Runenrs was won by #H31 Micheal Arp and #53 of Matt Patton.
With two races remaining at barely past 10 pm, the crowd came to the feet only to see a late entry pull to the race track for the STEEL-HEADED LATE MODEL FEATURE. The always late never early #5 of Ronnie Johnson pulled his familiar black/red #5 to the rear of the field. Polesitters #B5 Todd Hernandez and #29 Jason Welshan would bring the full field to the green. Welshan would take the early lead and look to be on his way to improving on his second place finish from last week when everything went up in smoke on lap 7. He pulled his #29 to the front stretch with steam coming out from every end. Later to learn he had broken the water pump completely off. But the crowd was getting excited as that late entry of Ronnie Johnson was now up to sixth place with 19 laps remaining. But just as the bad luck had hit #29 Jason Welshan it also hit Mr. Johnson. On the very next retart the #5 slowed only to find his drive-shaft laying behind him ending his night. The lead was now taken by the #00 of Jeff Smith followed closely by the #52 of Scott Sexton. Smith was battling from the bottom while Sexton used the top. Sexton motored around Smith of lap 15 and never looked back. He was followed across the finish line by Smith the #32 of Lamar Scoggins ( who was DQ'D for being light at the scales) and #B5 Todd Hernandez, #07 Jason Cardwell and #16 Rick Hixson rounded out the top five.
