SHARON SPEEDWAY ADDS FASTRAK SANCTION TO 2010 CRATE LATE MODEL SCHEDULE

Mike Leone
HARTFORD, Ohio (January 25) - The FASTRAK Late Model Racing Series continues to add speedways at a record pace as Sharon Speedway is the latest to join the Northeast fold. The Hartford, Ohio speedway has announced that all of their 2010 crate Late Model events will be sanctioned by FASTRAK, which means they will be part of the National Weekly Series Championship.

While Sharon will not run the class on a weekly basis, they have scheduled three Northeast Touring Series events on May 29, July 28, and September 18. They will also run the FASTRAK Late Models on at least two other Saturdays that the division will not run at nearby Mercer Raceway Park. The potential also exists for additional shows on their new bi-weekly Friday night line-up.

"We're thrilled to add Sharon Speedway to FASTRAK and allow their races to count for the National Weekly Series Championship," explained Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. "We have a similar situation at McKean County Raceway and West Virginia Motor Speedway. This is something that will be a great benefit for the racers as we know how tight the National Weekly Championship is annually and any additional races can make a difference. It's been great working with Sharon's new GM/Promoter Dave Willoughby with both FASTRAK and Mercer Raceway Park."

In 2009, Sharon hosted their first ever FASTRAK Late Model races both as Northeast Touring Series events. The first show on May 23 drew 37 cars, which at the time was an all-time Northeast record, and was won by Mike Pegher, Jr., and second show on September 19 drew 33 cars and was won by champion David Scott.

"We were very pleased with our 2009 shows at Sharon," stated Willoughby. "We had an excellent turnout of cars and the fans really seemed to enjoy the races. We're looking forward to the three Touring Series events and have gone ahead and scheduled some additional shows that I know the racers will be excited about."

Sharon joins Hesston, New Egypt, Brewerton, Fulton, West Virginia, and Beckley Speedways as new FASTRAK-sanctioned speedways for the upcoming 2010 season in the Northeast.

Sharon Speedway is a 3/8-mile dirt oval located just one miles east of the Routes 7 and 305 intersection on Custer-Orangeville Road in Hartford, Ohio. It's one of the oldest family-owned and continuously weekly speedways in the country dating back to 1927. For more information, check out www.sharonspeedway.com.
