Mathew Miley IMPERIAL, Penn. (January 12) - Officials of Miley Motor Sports have assembled an exciting 2010 schedule of events for Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway. The 2010 "Total Special Event" schedule features championship racing events or exciting fan promotions on virtually every event.
The season will kick off with an open practice on Saturday, March 27 followed by the the "2010 Blastoff" season opener on Saturday, April 3. Weekly Saturday night racing in 2010 will feature the Super Late Models, Semi-Lates (formerly Pro-Lates), E-mods, Cadets (formerly Sportsman), Hobby (formerly Factory Stock) and Young Gun Classes.
Rules for all classes have been posted for the upcoming season on the track website and are highly compatible with other area track's rules. Officials are very excited about the new GM 525 motor option for Super Late Models. Race teams will be able to compete in the Super Late Model class for approximately $9,000 in motor costs. The Spec motor program has been a key to keeping the Super Late Model division on track at PPMS, and the even lower cost GM 525 motor should continue that trend well into the future by allowing more race teams to remain in the class long-term.
Headlining the 2010 schedule are 4 UFo Race Championship events. PPMS will continue to operate as the home-base track of the UFo tour. The "Red Miley 53" will take place on Saturday, May 15, with the "F-2" Shockwave on Saturday, July 24 and the "PENNational" on Saturday, August 28. The annual "Pittsburgher/Ultimate" is scheduled for the traditional 3rd weekend in September. 3 of those events will be co-sanctioned with the United Late Model Series from the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania including "The Pittsburgher." The 2009 UFo events at PPMS produced some of the most exciting racing in the track's history.
The BRP Tour for Big Block Modifieds return on Saturday, May 29 for "Modisaurus-X." This event will be an open wheel bonanza with the UEMS/TSMA E-mods also in competiton for a championship race. A full racing program including the Super Late Models will round out the racing program.
The 410 Super Sprints will invade PPMS on Saturday, July 10 for the "Flight of the Phoenix." The winged warriors produce incredible speeds on the Monster Half-Mile, unlike anywhere else. This program will also feature all divisions including Super Late Models.
At least 2 championship, extra-distance events have been scheduled for the Semi-Lates, E-mods, Cadets, Hobby & Young Gun divisions during the regular racing season, in addition to "The Pittsburgher/Ultimate." The "Semi-Late Grand Prix" is scheduled for June 12 with the annual "Jook George Championship" on August 14. The E-mods will take place in the UEMS/TSMA face-off as part of "Modisaurus-X" on May 29 with the TSMA "E-mod Tri-State Challenge" on July 31. The "Cadet Frenzoid" will take place on April 24 with the "Cadet Thunder Run" scheduled for Labor Day weekend, September 4. The Hobby & Young Gun divisions will compete in their "Spring & Fall Trophy Championships" on April 17 and September 11.
Free grandstand admission will also return to PPMS in 2010. On designated nights, the residents of all surrounding counties, West Virginia and Ohio will be admitted to the grandstands for free.
The Wacky Wheels Figure-8 class will also be returning to PPMS in 2010 for 4 events. This 4-cylinder, strictly stock class provides daredevil drivers a very low-cost way to compete at PPMS.
The season will come to a summit on September 16-17-18 with the 22nd annual "Pittsburgher/Ultimate." The UFo Super Late Models co-sanctioned by ULMS will headline the weekend's events. The new 2009 format produced the most amazing "Pittsburgher" ever and an equally outstanding "Ultimate." Bart Hartman passed a total of 28 cars in the feature events to sweep the twin 51-lap races, carrying home the biggest prize ever paid at PPMS. The Semi-Lates, UEMS/TSMA E-mods and Cadets will compete in companion Super Championship events along with the Hobby & Young Gun divisions.
Before the 2008 and 2009 racing seasons, Miley Motor Sports has added new clay to the Monster Half-Mile as well as reconfigure the track banking. The result has been top-to-bottom, 3 and 4 wide racing on the 100 foot wide surface. The past off season is no exception, as even more new clay was hauled in to continue the excellent competition at PPMS.
Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway is located just west of Pittsburgher off US 22/30 at the Noblestown Exit. Complete track information may be obtained at the track website. More information can also be obtained by calling 412-279-7223 weekdays.
