Harlan Osborne PETALUMA, Calif. (April 25) - Although just 10 Late Models made it to the 25-lap All-Pro feature race five of them found their way to the front for at least one lap. But, as the saying goes, there's only one lap that counts and that's the last one, which was just fine with Fremont's John Silva, who won his second straight in a contest that saw nearly every car scraping paint and swapping positions with others in the highly charged event.
Nick Perivolaris led the initial five laps before Randy Shafer, trying to get inside of the leader, got out of shape, and went to the rear. The restart saw Shawn DeForest power to the front, but for just one lap before Michael Paul Sr. took charge for just one lap, before track champion Paul Guglielmoni took charge for just one lap. On Lap 9 DeForest made it four lead changes in as many laps when he took charge until Lap 22 when Guglielmoni regained the front spot. Silva, who had dropped as low as sixth place, took the high side around Guglielmoni on the back straight and despite Guglielmoni's persistent challenge held onto the lead to the finish for his 30th career Petaluma victory.
"We had a good run on the bottom with Guglielmoni, it was fun. Eventually it all worked out," said Silva, the only late model driver with three top fives this season. Heat winner Randy Shafer finished third, followed by Perivolaris, heat and trophy dash winner DeForest, Dennis Souza, Larry Damitz, Rick Shafer, Rod Arnold, and Paul.
