Michael Despain JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (April 24) - The Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model division raced for $1,500 to win on Friday evening at Ponderosa Speedway and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY would come away with the win in the 30 lap main event. In other action, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY would claim his third straight Clayton Homes Modified feature win and Zane Morgan of Junction City, KY picked up his second straight Kentucky National Guard Pro Late Model victory, while Bartley Grant of Berea, KY made it three straight wins in the Bob Allen Motor Mall Sportsman division.
The start of the Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model feature event would see two false starts, one for a Joey Rigdon spin in turn four and the second for a spin by Victor Lee in turn three that resulted in an eight car tangle that would end the night for Rigdon and Jacob Webber. Once underway, Eric Wells would take the race lead, followed by Mike Marlar, Justin Rattliff, Victor Lee, and Johnny Wheeler. Michael Chilton would take fifth on lap 2, with action slowed one circuit later for Lee, would slowed on the frontchute with a flat right rear tire. The restart saw Wells keep the point, with Marlar and Rattliff second and third, while Chilton and Brandon Fouts would be in spots four and five. Wells would begin the process of lapping slower traffic by lap 9, with Chilton attempting to run down Rattliff for third. Greg Johnson would move into the top five past Fouts on lap 11, as Wells turned up the heat from his lead position and had lapped up to the tenth place car on lap 15. Chilton would win the battle for third from Rattliff on lap 17, while Wells had clear track at the time and had opened his lead a bit more by lap 20. Wells would continue to lap his way into the top ten and catching sixth place David Webb with five laps remaining. But Webb would not go away easily and with Wells attempting to lap Webb, Marlar would quickly close in from his runner-up slot. The lead duo took the white flag in traffic and there would be three-wide action down the backchute, with Wells holding on for the win behind the wheel of the David Wells owned Convenient Lube/ Wells Logging/American Racer Tires sponsored #18 Rocket Chassis, Custom Race Engines mount. Marlar, Chilton, Rattliff, and Johnson would complete the top five. Webb would lead the second five at the finished, trailed by Lee, Fouts, Buzz Williams, and Jeremy Hines. Nineteen entries saw Mike Marlar be top qualifier at 13.611 seconds. Wells would also win the dash, while heat race victories were captured by Chilton and Webb.
