Columbus Speedway COLUMBUS, Miss. (April 11) - There are currently two facts about Columbus Speedway that have been validated over the weekend…the first one is that if Chris Wall is in the house he is going to be the man to beat. The second is that if Chris Wall and Scott Bloomquist are on hand they are currently the two guys to beat and they proved of the course of the 7th Annual Brown Engineering Rebel Challenge weekend at Columbus Speedway.
Wall won the $3,000 to win Rebel Rouser 40 in convincing fashion on Friday night over a strong 44-car field of Super Late Models. Chris Wall from Holden, LA decimated the field lapping up to seventh place as the Intimagator would take another big win at The Baddest Bullring in the South. Dirt racing Hall of Famer Billy Moyer was second with Tennessee's Dane Dacus in third. Alabama's Anthony Burroughs was fourth with Scott Slay completing the top five.
Action really picked up on Saturday night with a couple of notable additions to the field including Mooresburg, TN racing legend Scott Bloomquist plus a few others with $10,000 to win on the line.
Northport's Ronny Lee Hollingsworth would set fast time and earn the 1st starting position during Midsouthracing.com Pole Qualifying over a strong 45-car field.
The 50-lap action packed main event would see Wall jump to the early lead on the "hammer down" high banked speedplant with furious action throughout the field with wholesale position changes. Bloomquist would slip back to seventh while Hollingsworth, Wall, Shane Clanton, Dan Schlieper from Wisconsin, and Kentucky's Terry English all battled for positions.
Bloomquist would fight his into contention by lap 30 and do battle with Wall for the lead as the two aces battled it out like jet fighters on the exceptionally fast track. Bloomquist would make the winning move on lap 38 to take his 3rd consecutive Columbus Speedway win in his last 3 appearances at the fabled speedway. Wall would finish second with Hollingsworth 3rd, Clanton, 4th, and Wendall Wallace completing the top five.
Brasstown, NC's Ray Cook took the Late Model Stock feature worth $2,000 to win with Eric Cooley second and Louisville's Shawn Edwards in third. The Open Wheel Modified division saw Jeremy Shaw take the big $2,000 to win main event with Shay Knight second and Trinity Wyers in third. The Street Stock Championship went to Trey Bright with Jeremy Shaw coming up short in doubling up by one position with the always fast David Honeycutt rounding out the top three.
Next week will have both Columbus Speedway and Magnolia Speedway in action in a special doubleheader as the Nesmith National Late Model Series will be at Columbus Speedway on Friday night and Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday night. All divisions will be in action each night including the Super Late Models, Modifieds, Late Model Stocks, Street Stocks and Stingers.
