CUMBERLAND, Md. (April 11) - D.J. Troutman took the victory in the opening round of The Rock-Hagerstown Clash on Saturday night at The Rock, Allegany County Speedway.

Troutman grabbed the lead in the opening laps of the 30-lap event for the Limited Late Models and the Late Model Sportsman class from the Hagerstown Speedway.

In other action on a cool and breezy night at the speedway, Dave Brown won the Street Stock race and Marcius VanMeter won the Hobby Stock event. The Factory Stock races went to Ryan and Wade Peer.

Troutman started third and followed Tim Smith Jr. to the lead at the outset. On the second of two cautions with one lap complete, Troutman slipped underneath of Smith for the lead coming out of turn two.

Only some traffic slowed Troutman down the rest of the way. He led Andy Fries by as much as 4.5 seconds before giving up some ground in the last 10 laps. Fries was still a straightaway behind at the finish.

Matt Sponaugle closed out the race in third after a good early battle with Travis Calhoun. Mike Shoemaker took fourth and Calhoun ended up fifth.

Brown showed the entire way to the checkered flag in the 16-lap Street Stock feature. After crashing out last week, Brown fought off Bill Henney prior to the halfway point and broke free from the rest of the pack to win by a straightaway.

Henney tried to take the lead away on a restart at lap seven but Brown kept the lead on the backstretch. Henney later fell off the pace and finished seventh.

Mike Desch was the runner-up for the second straight week. Kevin Deremer, Daryl Whetstone and Justin Bonnett completed the top five.

VanMeter started on the outside pole and quickly took command of the 15-lap Hobby Stock feature. David Puckett chased VanMeter until lap 10 when he exited the race. The resulting caution flag set up a race for the lead with VanMeter and R.T. Troutman.

VanMeter prevailed by just three car lengths over R.T. Troutman. Tom Warren finished third after starting last. Terry Norris and rookie Justin Michael completed the top five.

Ryan Peer picked up six spots in the first three laps to take control of the Factory Stock 4-Cylinder feature for the second week in a row. He took the lead from Steve Riggleman after the first lap and led Nick Iski to the finish by half of a straightaway.

Iski got the runner-up spot by holding off Jim Best in the final turn. Behind Best, Brandon Inglish and Tyler Alkire finished fourth and fifth.

Wade Peer was the surprise winner in the 6- and 8-Cylinder race after leader Ray Shepherd crashed in turn one three laps shy of the finish. Shepherd, who had taken the lead on lap three from Gary Breeden, built a straightaway advantage over Peer by lap six.

After Shepherd's crash, Peer was in command for the remainder of the event. Gary Proctor lost a top-five finish with a spin and collision with Brian Ringer on lap 10. Bob Imes, Rel Breedlove, Joe Rodgers and Alan Lowery finished third through fifth in the 12-lap feature.

The Rock will continue racing next Saturday with Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Factory Stock 4-Cylinders and Classic Cars starting at 7 p.m.
