Michael Despain JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (April 4) - Victor Lee of Stanford, KY would put his name in the record books as the winner of the 2nd Annual Chris Estes/Brad Pena Memorial for Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models on Saturday evening at Ponderosa Speedway, pocketing $4,000 for his efforts. Other division winners for the evening included Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Clayton Homes Modifieds, Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN in Kentucky National Guard Pro Late Models, and Bartley Grant of Berea, KY in Bob Allen Motor Mall Sportsman.
Victor Lee would jump to the lead at the start of the 40 lap Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model main event, with Greg Johnson, Tyrel Todd, Michael Chilton, and Justin Rattliff in pursuit. This would be the running order when the first caution waved on lap 3 for a three incident in turn three involving Bobby Carrier, Jr., Frankie Coomer, and Randy Ridner, with Ridner being the worse for wear as his evening would be finished. With action resuming, Lee would still hold the point and begin to gradually pull away from the field, while Johnson and Chilton would begin to battle for second on lap 8. Lee would begin the process of lapping slower traffic on lap 12, while Todd would begin to pressure Chilton as the leaders also worked their way through lapped traffic. By lap 22, Lee had stretched his lead to almost a full straightaway, while Rattliff and Todd would mix it up for fifth. Jason Keltner would join the battle for fourth and would take fifth from Rattliff on lap 25, while Rattliff would feel pressure from David Webb one trip later. The second caution of the event flew on lap 30 when the lapped car of Brandon Fouts would spin in turn two, with Rattliff and Webb spinning to try to avoid the spinning car, with Rattliff getting the worst end of the deal and would pull his entry pitside with damage. The restart would also be called back when fifth place running Keltner would slow in turn two with problems on his machine and be finished for the night. The final restart would again see Lee scoot away quickly from the field, while Todd and Chilton would wage a spirited battle for third. But the end result would see Lee score the victory behind the wheel of the Frank Revel owned, Kentucky's Best/ Budda Bert Transmission Sales and Service/The Key Club/Tim Logan Racing Supply/Don's Marathon/CashforGold.com/American Racer Tires sponsored #4 C.J. Rayburn Race Cars, Jay Dickens Race Engines powered machine. Johnson, Todd, Chilton, and Dustin Linville would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Mike Marlar, Kevin Claycomb, Jimmy Crabtree, Eddie Carrier, and Larry Gray, Jr. Linville would be the top qualifier among 31 entries with a lap of 14.488 seconds. Heat wins were scored by Lee, Johnson, and Todd, while Mike Jewell won the B-Main, with Johnny Wheeler getting the event provisional.
