CHATSWORTH, Ga. (March 21) - Derek Ellis moved into the lead on lap 21 of the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday night at North Georgia Speedway and never looked back as he cruised to his first win of the 2009 season.

Ellis moved past Gary McPherson for second on the fifth lap of the 30-lap Late Model feature and began to battle with leader Jake Knowles. Knowles was able to keep Ellis in the second spot until the 21st circuit when he (Knowles) fell off the pace and coasted into the pits with a broken radiator hose. With Knowles out Ellis moved into the top spot and cruised to the checkered flag.

Jeff Smith, who moved past McPherson for second with five laps to go, would finish second, McPherson third, Brad Coffey fourth and John Jones fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were George Mashburn, Buster Goss, J.J. Templeton, Scott Hall and Philip Anderson.

Starting where he left off last year Limited Late Model hot shoe John Ownbey took the lead on the first lap and led all 20 circuits to take the Limited Late Model feature win. While Ownbey was leading Spencer Singleton and Deven Dilbeck were putting on a spirited battle for the second spot. Dilbeck would experience mechanical problems. With Dilbeck in the pits Brian Jackson move in behind Singleton for third and take the second spot two laps later.

Following Ownbey, Jackson and Singleton across the stripe were Scott Jackson and Michael Brewer.

The Crate Late Model feature saw Colby Kilgore and Aaron Ridley put on a heat battle with Kilgore in the lead and Ridley putting on the pressure from the runner up spot Ridley would take the lead on lap 16 but it would be short lived as he headed for the pit on lap 17. Kilgore took the lead and went on to take the win. Blake Stewart, Chuck Padgett, Jason Deals and Bryan Pritchard rounded the top five.

Greg Ledford took the lead halfway through the 15-lap Hobby feature and held off Tim Ford for the remaining laps to take the win. Ford was second, Jason Brown third, John Clark fourth and Larry Higgins fifth.

Timmy Millwood led all 15 laps to win the Econo Bomber feature. On his way to victory Millwood would first hold off Tom Peters and then Ronnie Sanders. Sanders held on for second, Peters finished third with Donnie Price and Chad Collins rounding out the top five.

In a very spirited Pony feature Tim Ladd would put his Toyota in the lead with three laps remaining and go on to take the win. Billy Callahan, Greg Callahan, Ralph Langston, and Chad Elliott would round out the top five. Ladd was protested and found to be legal.

The cars and stars of the Southern All Star Series will return to North Georgia on Friday night April 3rd. The $4,000 to win 40-lap event will have support for all of North Georgia's regular divisions. On Saturday April 4, the SAS shifts to Cleveland Speedway for the 14th Annual Shamrock.
