SMS Media SANTA MARIA, Calif. (February 6) - Long time Santa Maria, CA resident and businessman, Chris Kearns has signed a three year lease to operate and promote Santa Maria Speedway. "This is an incredible opportunity and really a dream come true" stated Kearns. Known for his Customer Service type approach, Kearns is expecting great car counts in all divisions. "I believe that I know what it takes to keep the drivers happy, the fans entertained and everyone having fun" added Kearns. "If a fan leaves my track and doesn't feel they got their monies worth, then I haven't done my job."
It is going to be a family affair for the Kearns' group. Kearns says "I will be tackling this challenge with my wife Kari and our 3 kids. The kids are really excited. Kari has been in the restaurant and catering business for 20 years and has big plans for the concession stands. I am very thankful that she is also handling all of the legal stuff, such as permits, licenses and insurance. I would be lost there." Also added Kearns "I know we are starting a little late and have a lot to do, so if we don't get it done by the season opener, then we will just keep working on our improvements throughout the year. We have some great promotions planned. I think the fans and the racers are going to be very excited and pleased."
Chris Kearns is the former promoter of The Western Allstars Super Dirt Late Model Series. In the 2 years under Kearns direction the series had a 36 and 39 car count average respectfully. Kearns has also promoted races for the Series on NASCAR weekends in Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Bakersfield Speedway Promoter Scott Schweitzer was quoted as saying " This is the greatest thing that could have happened for Santa Maria Speedway, Bakersfield Speedway and all of the racers involved. Chris is a tremendous Promoter and he and I will work great together to keep improving Dirt racing in California.
Santa Maria Speedway was built in 1964 by Doug Fort, who ran the facility until his passing in 1999. The Speedway will commence its 46th year in operation 2009. Santa Maria Speedway is a 1/3 mile clay oval that is located on the 101 Freeway, just north of the City of Santa Maria at the Highway 166 junction.
