CLEVELAND, Tenn. (October 8) - McDaddy Dale McDowell took the checkers Thursday night for the Lana's Love Foundation, returning to Cleveland Speedway's victory lane for the first time in over a year. McDowell, whom cut his teeth back in the 1980's at the place the late Joe Lee Johnson built, over 30-years ago, found the opportunity to race back in front of the home crowd and pocketed the $5,000. payday, when all was said and done. On lap 14 McDowell put his NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer owned # 17M "Cheerio's, Dollar General Corp, Cometic Gasket" sponsored Warrior / Custom Race Engines, Super Late Model past early leader Skip Arp and held the top spot for the next 39 circuits. McDowell even lucked-out (while 2nd) during the event when 1999 O'Reilly Southern All-Star champ Jamie Perry slowed infront of the leaders and crashed hard with 3rd running (and event Fast Qualifier) William Thomas. Arp held on for 2nd, but even on a mid-race restart, no-one had anything for McDowell. Two-time and defending GOBBLER champion Shane Clanton finished 3rd with Rick Rogers and Clint Smith rounding out the Top 5.
