MINNEAPOLIS, Kans. (September 19) - In front of a huge crowd on a cool Saturday on September 19 Delbert "The Iceman" Smith wrote his name into the record books at the Minneapolis Raceway with a big win coming in the MidwestDirt Late Model Series feature event.

Smith grabbed the #1 spot in the redraw to start on the pole. He quickly took the lead at the start of the race and shook off a persistent Mike Wiarda throughout the first half of the race to stay at the point. Two quick yellows were pulled for Matt Buller early in the race but once, but was the race resumed it was smooth sailing for Smith as lapped traffic came into play.

Smith would cross the finish line in first with plenty of breathing space, followed by Wiarda, Jason Friesen, Al Humphrey, and Jimmy Segraves.

Cale Gottschalk took the win in the B Feature earlier in the evening by a long distance over Justin Kinderknecht.

Dave Conkwright led early in heat 1 before Segraves took over for the win followed by Conkwright.

Heat 2 showed Wiarda up front for all 10 laps. Buller, driving a crate motored car, ran second until late when Friesen got by.

Smith led heat 3 until the 6th lap when Humphrey caught him riding the bottom side and moved past to take the win, followed by Smith. In this race Humphrey also set the night's one lap record with a 15.809 seconds laptime.

MDLMS points leader Chuck Comer led the way in the Cash Dash sponsored by Speedy Cash of Salina. The race was made up of the 4 farthest travelers to the race.

The series will be in action again in 2009 at the Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma in October. The details of this event will be released this upcoming week.
