Michael Despain BARDSTOWN, Ky. (September 19) - Bluegrass Speedway returned to action after a two week hiatus and Terry English of Benton, KY became the 12th different 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature winner of the 2009 season by winning the 25 lap main event. Timmy Glazer of Bardstown, KY picked up his fourth Street Stock feature victory of the season by claiming the $300 to special for this division, while Benji Lee of Loretto, KY won the Modified feature, with Pat Hagan of New Haven, KY winning his seventh WBRT 1320-AM Sportsman feature of the year.
The 44 Auto Mart Super Late Model feature would see Johnny Wheeler take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Lee Devasier, Terry English, David Webb, and Jerry Rutherford in pursuit. Wheeler and Devasier would begin to battle for the lead on lap 2, while Jeff Watson would roll past Rutherford for fifth. Devasier would have the lead by a nose at the line on lap 3 as the lead duo would battle side-by-side around the track, while Webb began to challenge English for third on lap 5. Devasier and Wheeler would continue to duel for the lead, with Wheeler getting the advantage again on lap 7 as Webb went by English for third. The only caution of the event would wave one lap later as Devasier slowed entering turn one with a broken j-bar mount and Webb would spin to avoid Devasier, as track officials called the caution for Devasier. The restart would have Wheeler still on the point, with Webb, English, Watson, and Rutherford giving chase. Wheeler and English would settle into an entertaining side-by-side battle for the lead after English passed Webb for second on lap 9. Watson would close in on Webb for third and would take third on lap 12 as the leaders closed in on slower traffic. English would get the advantage in turn three on lap 13 by using a slower car for a pick to gain the lead. By lap 17, English would begin to open his advantage as Watson would begin to reel in second place Wheeler. As English continued to pull away from the field, Watson would catch Wheeler and would have second as the pair took the white flag, but it would be English leading the final 13 circuits to claim the victory in his Triple A Fence/Seay Motors/Cox Wrecker Service/Sunoco/Wiles sponsored #96 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, Clements Race Engines powered machine. Watson, Wheeler, Webb, and Rutherford completed the top five, while Gary Yeager, Tanner English, Kevin Colston, Aaron Matthews, and Robbie Bennett completed the top ten. Terry English would be the top qualifier, while Wheeler won the dash and Watson would win the heat.
