Mike Schmidt FARLEY, Iowa (September 4) - Friday night was season championship night at the Farley Speedway. Many points battles were yet to be decided heading in to Friday night's action. Andy Eckrich took a three point cushion into the nights races over Ron Klein.
Ron Klein lead the late model field to the green flag, with Andy Eckrich starting back in the pack after switching to a back up car prior to the feature event. Klein jumped to the early lead over Jeff Larson, Jeremiah Hurst, Joel Callahan and Brian Beaudry. By Lap five, Klein was continuing to stretch his lead. Andy Eckrich started his march to the front of the feature in hopes of holding on for the track championship. Eckrich was battling for fourth on lap fourteen with Jason Rauen, but a flat tire caused him to go pitside and restart at the rear again. After a lap fifteen restart, Klein once again paced the field, over Hurst, Callahan, Jill George and Andy Eckrich. Klein continued to lead until encountering lapped traffic on lap thirty, allowing Hurst to go by him on the outside of turns one and two. Hurst held on for the feature win, but Klein was able to come home second, securing him his first track championship over Andy Eckrich.
The modified race was a heated battle among the top three in points: Jason Schueller, Ron Barker and Mark Schulte. Whichever driver was able to come away with the win would win the track championship. Schueller jumped to the early race lead with Ron Barker hot on his trails. The two matched each other step-for-step, racing side by side for many laps before a caution appeared on lap sixteen. The caution is just what Mark Schulte needed. Off the restart, Schulte powered into the lead going in to turn one, and held on for the feature win and track championship.
Other feature winners included Jed Freiburger (B-Modifieds), Hope Schmerbach (Limited Stock), Jon Poll (Stock Cars), and Matt Roloff (Farley Flyers). In addition to the season championship victories, Jed Freiburger, Hope Schmerbach and Jon Poll took season points championships. Jeremy Campbell took home the points championships in the Farley Flyer division.
