Mike Leone MIDDLEBORNE, W.V. (August 22) - The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series headed back to West Virginia for the second straight event on Saturday night for the second and final appearance of the season at Tyler County Speedway. Event #11 of 17 attracted a field of 29 cars for the inaugural "Union-Confederate North-South Battle of the States".
Making his first ever FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series start, Chris Meadows came out victorious in the 30-lap feature earning the big $2,000 payday and chalked up a win for the Southerners over the Northerners. Not only was it the Beckley, West Virginia driver's first Northeast Touring Series start, it was the first start in any FASTRAK-sanctioned event ever in the Northeast Region.
It was not a good night for any of the Northern racers as the West Virginia drivers swept all four heat races, the B main, and took the top five spots of the feature. Meadows hounded Touring Series regular and track regular Gary Knollinger for the first 17 laps of the feature before making the winning move on the 18th circuit. Meadows then held off Knollinger the rest of the way in his #33 for the victory. Meadows became the seventh different Touring Series winner this season in 11 races and the 15th different winner in 30 Touring Series events all-time.
Knollinger recorded his second runner-up of the season and fifth top four finish in Touring Series competition, and also leaped from fifth in points to third. Daniel Hill, who is second in Tyler County's track points, finished third for his first career Touring Series top five. Kyle Thomas was fourth and recorded his third top 10 in four Touring Series starts. Aaron Barley, another southern West Virginia invader, made his second straight Touring Series start and was an impressive fifth.
Touring Series point leader, David Scott, probably wouldn't consider finishing sixth a good night for him typically, but he came home the top finishing Northern racer after starting 14th and extended his point lead to 18 over Max Blair, who got caught up in a first lap accident. Scott has now finished in the top seven in 10 of the 11 races this season. Mike Blose, Bud Watson, Steve Adkins, and Dereck Rogers completed the top 10.
