Sam Steiner-Schmidt DUBUQUE, Iowa (August 16) - Mother Nature decided to dump a bunch of rain on the Dubuque Speedway. After a bunch of work, track prep and a delay in the start time of Sunday's events racing was under way. Kids also got to enjoy Back to School night with tons of fun and prizes.
Joel Callahan took the race lead in the Late Model division with Mike Fryer very close behind. Lap four Jake Meier took over the second position. Jeremiah Hurst was on the move advancing to the third position on lap five, then to the second position on lap six and finally to the lead on lap seven. Hurst continued to lead after several cautions. On lap 13 the fans saw some jaw dropping action when Jeff Tharp went into turn one and rolled several times finally coming down on all four wheels. After he landed a fire started under the hood of the car. Tharp was unable to get out of the car for quit some time and eventually got out and was taken for observation and treatment. We wish Tharp a speedy recovery. After a lengthy red flag period the race was back underway with Hurst continuing to lead. Meier and Jeff Larson went side by side battling for the fourth position on lap 15 with Meier taking fourth. By lap 17 the top two broke away from the field. Yet again on lap 19 Meier and Larson went side by side for fourth with Meier claiming fourth. Hurst took home his second feature win of the weekend ahead of Ron Klein, Jim Brokus, Meier and Larson.
Other feature wins were given to Ron Barker in Modified, Terry Rittmer in Stock Car, Jed Freiburger in B-modified, Jeff Baker in Limited Stocks and Phil Anderson in Farley Flyers.
