Steve Hixson RINGGOLD, Ga. (August 14) - The AXE-MAN Kevin Gibson was Friday nights "HIRED GUN" at BOYD's SPEEDWAY and got the job done in the 20 lap Crate Late Model feature. The usual "Mid Nite Oil Racing Fuel" Super Late Model dirt ace, got the opportunity to pilot the # R76 "Still Motion Photo.com, Bags N' Britches, Harrison Transmission, Southern Bullion" sponsored Pontiac Gran Prix and held off a challenge from Todd Morrow and beat David Tindell to the checkered flag for the $800 payday. The race starting line-up was altered due to penalities handed out for MOST of the field, failing to meet "starting call" for staging in the infield. Two time / back to back winner Jeff Smith didn't start, the feature that handed the FRONT ROW JOE honors to Daryl Owenbey and Gibson. Tindell kept his composure and was challenging Gibson, til 2008 Top Track Champion Morrow came rolling along. Morrow pocketed 2nd place, with two laps remaining, but had to pit under caution and disappoint his Tennessee Faithful with a 14th place finish. The divisions "3-Amigos" Jerry Coffman, Craig Burrows and points leader James Gamble rounded out the Top 5. Birthday Boy B-MAN Brian Jackson tallied a last place finish in 18th despite winning his heat race.
Rick Hixson was like a TOURNIQUET on Kayne Hickman the entire 25-laps of the Steel Head Late Model "A" Main Feature. Hickman scored the lead from 1999 Southern All-Star series champion Jamie Perry on lap 10, but Hixson main-stayed the rash of cautions, to offically take the lead on lap 18 from the H3 Performance pilot. Mike Price, who finished just behind Hickman, after a race-long battle against Rex Richey, is rite behind Hixson's # 16 "BJ's Flooring, Austin Trucking" Race Engine Design powered / MasterSbilt in the Steel-head 2009 Points chase. Perry slipped back behind Richey to round out the Top 5 finishers. Arva BOOGER Brooks won again the A-Hobby division feature. Corey Cresswell fended off points leader Tod Hernandez for second. Somehow Larry Higgins scrapped, kicked, clawed, begged, borrowed and everything else to rally from about the last row to finish 4th with Scott Boyd hanging on to finish 5th. If you've been in a coma, then you might not be able to guess who won the B-Hobby race. SWEET Lee Hogan won race # 6. The HURRICANE-RANNA finish had Jim Wallbanger 2nd, Brandon Francis 3rd with Steve King and Lebron Miller (back-trackin' it) to round out the Top 5. Jimmy Elliott WISELY paid the DOUBLE ENTRY to WIN the DOUBLE MONEY in the Pony Feature. He almost sat in the stands Friday with the family, but instead came from the back and won. Daniel Burnett was 2nd with Jon Smith, a unknown driver and Wendall Ingram rounding out the Top 5. And finally Billy Bailey made it 4-in-a-row Friday winning the FWD feature. Matt Patton and Joe Cross thought they had Bailey's number, but the T11 proved otherwise and led the last 5-laps of the race. Points leader Michael Arp was 4th with Derrick Forgey fifth.
