Chuck Griffith LAKEVILLE, Ohio (August 8) - The evening started on a very solemn note as the pre race opening was in honor of a long time racer, car owner, fabricator and most of all a great friend to all, Brian Craft who had died of a heart condition on Thursday night.
Charlie Duncan won for the fifth time this year in the Hamlin Racing Engines sponsored Late Models as he won the heat and redrew a pole starting spot with Jay McDougal on the outside of the front row. Rick Bond and last weeks winner Eric Eicholtz had earned a second row position on the starting grid. Duncan was never really challenged in the finale in his Hall's Auto Sales sponsored machine until late in the event as Bond was able to move in on his rear bumper to take second place.
Mike Lonas had won his heat event, started sixth and he and McDougal battled the entire event for position with McDougal holding on to third and Lonas fourth. Eicholtz took the fifth finishing spot with last years track champion J.R. Gentry not able to run the heat race started eleventh and drove to a sixth place finish.
