PHENIX CITY, Ala. (August 8) - Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway was kids bike racing night and exciting racing in the local divisions. The nights action began with qualifying for the Extreme Power Sports Pole award. Larry Harrod looking for redemption after last weeks mishap once again set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 15:47 seconds. Shane Stodghill set the second fastest time with Scott Knowles timing in third. There were sixteen cars on hand to do battle for 20 laps in the Alabama Rock Late Model division. When the green waved Harrod went to work stepping away from the field and leaving Knowles and Stodghill to battle for second. Knowles would take the position and set his sights on Harrod. After just three laps of action the caution was waved for last weeks winner Terrance Nowell who slipped up in turns one and two and went off the track. No damage was done to Nowell's car and he would rejoin at the back of the pack. With the cars back in order the green was displayed once again and just like before Harrod put some distance between himself and Knowles. The front two cars seemed content to ride for the moment as a battle ensued from third on back. Bobby Eiland was able to make it past Stodghill for third and bring Richie Stephens with him to bump Stodghill to fifth. Then on lap 10 the caution would wave again as Dana Eiland spun off of turn 4 trying to pass Stodghill for the fifth position. Eiland would pull into the pits and not return ending his night early. Once again the green was out and Harrod started to put some distance between himself and Knowles. The top five running order would remain the same until lap 14 when Terrance Nowell, coming from the back and using the high line to get a run off the corner, passed Stodghill for fifth. Two laps later he passed Stephens for fourth and then with just one lap left the caution came out giving Knowles one more shot at Harrod. The spinning car of Jimmy Evilsizer was the cause for the caution. Now the field was back in order and ready for a one-lap dash. The green was displayed and Harrod once again got a jump going into turn one but all eyes were on Terrance Nowell who in one turn passed Bobby Eiland for third and was all over Knowles for second coming out of turn 4 Harrod crossed the line to take the win. On the last corner of the last lap coming all the way from the rear after an early spin Terrance Nowell passed Scott Knowles at the line to take home second. Scott Knowles was third, Bobby Eiland was fourth and Richie Stephens was fifth.
