SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (August 8) - A photo finish had the crowd on their feet for the finish of the Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Model event but it didn't look like the race would end that way from the start as Jake Redetzke had the fastest car on the speedway at the drop of the green as he rocketed out to the lead. Dennis Hillson sat in second with Kelly Anderson and Jesse Redetzke racing for third. Anderson took third while Jesse now raced with Cory Mahder for fourth. Mahder took the spot with Mike Prochnow following him through to fifth. With nineteen to go Prochnow was racing Anderson for the third spot as Steve Laursen and Cory Mahder battled for fifth. A caution with nineteen to go saw two restarts and accidents before the racing resumed. When it resumed Prochnow sat in second with Redetzke flying out front again. Laursen and Anderson racing for third as Redetzke started working heavy traffic again. With fourteen to go Adam Hensel cracked the top five. With twelve to go Laursen and Hensel moved low on Anderson and were three wide for third. Matthees followed the lead and worked under Laursen for the lead. With nine to go a caution flew this time for the leader Redetzke getting into a lapped car ending his run as he was sent rear of the field giving the lead to Prochnow on the restart. Hensel took control of second while Anderson, Laursen and Matthees were in a tight battle for third. Hensel was close to the leader and entering turn three on the last lap Hensel dove it in deep, slid up in front of Prochnow who saw it coming, backed off, turned the car straight and then the drag race to the finish line. It was Prochnow with the win by about 6 " over Hensel with the race director reviewing the tape to make absolutely sure that was the correct finish. Matthees, Laursen and Keith Foss rounded out the top five. heat race wins went to Prochnow, Jake Redetzke and Anderson.
