NORTON, Kans. (July 26) - Delbert "The Iceman" Smith made the most of his visit to the Norton County Fair over the July 25-26 weekend as he picked up not only 1 but 2 wins to add to his resume.
In his first visit to the track, Smith started at the back of his heat race on Saturday night and took the win, followed by the feature win as well. It was his first feature win in the MidwestDirt Late Model Series.
On Sunday Rockin' Ronnie Wallace pulled into the pits and took a quick win, beating Smith in the heat race. For the feature it looked as if it would be the Wallace show until he pulled off the track exiting turn 4 with a broken J bar. Colorado's Scott Lewis then inherited the lead, but was short lived as his #99 went up in smoke on the backstretch, thus giving the lead to Smith who checked out for another win.
In Saturday night's show David Garmann put together a good run to finish second, followed by Lewis, David Brack, and John Kuchar. Brack was the night's hard charger, after starting 9th and finishing 4th. Problems plagued the field the first night as Dave Conkwright, Todd Doty, and Ted Martin all would leave with motor problems. CLMA Promoter JT Botts was also in town with the group of drivers from Colorado.
Sunday's show had Garmann once again in the runner-up spot followed by Kuchar, Brack, and Brad Wagoner. Vince Wagoner had problems all weekend and didn't make a lap in Sunday's event.
