Scott Wolfe CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (July 18) - Rains pounded areas nearby, but K-C Raceway stayed high and dry. In the highest seat in the house, however, was veteran Delmas Conley, Wheelersburg, Ohio, who claimed the 30-lap $3,000 to win K-C Scramble Late Model feature Saturday night (July 18) at Jeff and Vicki Schrader's K-C Raceway. Taking the stunning $1,000 modified main was points' leader Rick Hensley (Oak Hill) and Jamie Dailey claimed his first-ever K-C Hobby Stock feature, a $600 to win invitational for the full bodied stock cars. "K-C Raceway is the best track in America!", proclaimed an ecstatic Delmas Conley in victory lane. "I've always said that. It's always fun to race here and the fans are the greatest. The track was perfect tonight. (To announcer Scott Wolfe) Scott, you could have driven this car to victory tonight. My crew had the car perfect." The veteran Conley, already a "Hall of Famer" started the night with a 13:91 clocking in hot laps. When the one-lap qualifying round came around, Conley was again in the thirteen's just three-tenths off the track record with a 13:921 or average of 98 miles per hour on the K-C high-banks. Although it wasn't a clean sweep by virtue of a third in the dash behind hard-charging Andy Bond and Greg Oliver, it was a dominating feature run--Conley's 736th of his career. Dash winner Bond and Oliver paced the field to the green flag with Oliver riding the high side to lead lap one. Oliver continued his charge through lap seven when Chad Smith overcame Bond for second and in one giant swoop took the lead from Oliver. Smith led laps eight and nine as Conley pounced on Bond and Oliver for second. Conley and Smith ran side by side for a couple laps before Conley appeared to blast out of a cannon in threading the needle between Smith and a lapped car on the backchute. The spectacular move was well worth the price of admission. Two laps later Smith went pitside with a flat, but returned in time to restart at the tail. Smith's drive was equally impressive in earning him hard-charger honors from the tail to third place. Andy Bond's great night went up in smoke with a possible cooling problem on the backchute. As Conley put his mount on cruise control in half-tracking the field Barry Doss won a race-long battle with Oliver to take second. Smith came back to third, bagging Oliver with two laps to go, while Dean Boyd, Brian Eaton, Chris Shannon, and Joey Dunseith completed impressive runs into the top ten. John Arthurs rounded out the top ten. Chad Smith was the hard charger from the tail to third. "I knew I had to stay straight and smooth," said Advanced Services Modified winner Rick Hensley. "I could hear the cars behind me and knew if I kept my tires under me I would be fine. But what makes this all possible is the fans. If it weren't for them we couldn't do this. It's great to get the win and Dave (Pinkerton) drove a great race. The summary- July 18, 2009
