FARLEY, Iowa (June 26) - Fans of the past and present joined in welcoming the racing legends to the Farley Speedway on a hot June night. Promoter Keith Simmons introduced the legends and took us all down memory lane. Even the kids in the stands got a chance to scramble for candy on the race track and had a chance to win several bikes on hand.
Ron Klein took the early race lead with Jeff Larson and Andy Eckrich behind him. By lap four Eckrich and Larson went side by side for second place at the flag stand with Eckrich having the edge over Larson. Klein continued to lead after a lap five caution. By lap 12 the field was pretty well spread out expect for the top two runners of Klein and Eckrich. On lap 24 Eckrich was able to get around the leader of Klein for the lead while they raced in a bunch of lap traffic cars. Eckrich took home the win ahead of Klein, Larson, Jake Meier and Nick Marolf.
The Farley Flyer feature gave the large crowd a bit of excitement. Lenny Ollendick took the early race lead with Jeremy Vasquez and Matt Roloff behind him. Jeremy Campbell coasted to a stop on the unused part of the race track. On lap two the three remaining cars went three wide for the lead coming out of turn four with Ollendick continuing to lead. Roloff took the race lead on lap three. A caution was called on lap four with no stopped or spun out cars or debri. This had the fans questioning the caution until an official had a quick word with each driver. All at once all the cars turned around and set up to race the reverse way. The crowd was eating it up and laughing. Roloff continued to lead after the restart. There was yet another three wide battle for the lead on lap five with Ollendick getting the race lead back. Another caution was called on lap seven to return to racing the normal way. Roloff took back the race lead and took home the race win over Vasquez, Ollendick and Campbell.
Other feature wins went to Jason Schueller in Modifieds, Jon Poll in Stock Cars, Tim Current in B-Modifieds, and Thomas Thompson in Limited Stocks.
