Justin Rickett PHENIX CITY, Ala. (June 20) - Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway the local stars of the Alabama Rock Late Model division were back in action and looking to put on a show for the fans. Tuesday Night Thunder winner Montana Dudley was looking to make it a two for two winning week but it just wasn't meant to be. The action started early in the night with Extreme Power Sports pole qualifying with Montana Dudley laying down a lap of 15.51 seconds. However it just so happened that the last car out was Larry Harrod and he was looking to collect the pole and the one hundred dollar award. On his second lap Harrod bested Dudley's lap by one one-hundredth with a lap of 15.50. The battle lines were set for a 20-lap Late Model slugfest and that it would be. Seventeen of the finest Late Models in the south took the green flag, and it was Harrod wasting no time taking a commanding lead. Dudley held second with Terrance Nowell following close in third. The caution was thrown early in the race for a spin in turn 2 and as that was happening forth place running Scott Knowles went for a ride in turn 3 . Knowles managed to make it back on to the track and lined back up forth for the restart. With the green back out Harrod picked up where he left off and started to put some distance between himself and Dudley. Nowell not wanting to settle for third was all over the back bumper of Dudley and then on lap nine he would complete the pass coming out of four. Nowell would hold the second spot for only four laps as Dudley with a second wind went charging back by Nowell to take back the second spot. Then with just five laps to go it looked as if Dudley was making Ground on Harrod. Harrod was running the high line with Dudley running the low line and he was coming. Slowly Dudley was closing in on Harrod. Lap after lap Dudley gained ground and then with the white flag in the air he had caught him. With Harrod running high in turns 1 and 2 and Dudley down low they came off the corner side by side. On the back straight Dudley went blasting by Harrod going into turn 3 diving to the lowest line on the track. Harrod knowing Dudley over drove the corner went high then cut low in the middle of the turn. Side by side with the fans on there feet they crossed the line. When the dust had settled it was Harrod holding of the young gun Montana Dudley in a race that the fans won't soon forget. Terrance Nowell had to settle for third with Bobby Eiland who started sixth racing his way to forth, and Dana Eiland rounding out the top five in fifth.
