PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (June 19) - With the UMP Summer Nationals getting rained out at Farmer City Raceway, Shannon Babb made the three hour treck south to Tri-City Speedway to get a little testing in before the UMP Summer Nationals visits Tri-City Speedway next Wednesday, June 24th. Babb's night got off to a good start when he drew a front row starting spot for the first heat race. Babb proceeded to dominate the heat race and won by a full straight-away. However, Mark Voigt from Marine, Illinois came prepared to protect his home turf and Voigt won his heat race as well. Babb would get the edge by winning the dash, setting up a front row for the main event with Babb on the pole and Voigt on the outside. Voigt got the lead at the drop of the green flag and Babb gave chase. Lap after lap Babb would pull along side Voigt through the corners, but Voigt would get a great run exiting the corners and would power back ahead of Babb down the straight-aways. This went on for almost every single lap of the twenty-five lap main event. Babb tried every line possible entering the corners and through the corners, but every lap Voigt would pull ahead down the straight-away. Voigt would take the victory with Babb a very close second. Chad Zobrist charged through the field after starting fifteenth in the main event to finish third. That feat earned Zobrist the STLRacing.com Hard Charger Award Bonus of $200. Rickey Frankel took the fourth spot. Everette Bradham, who was making his debut at Tri-City Speedway in the Super Late Model division had a great run and finished in the fifth spot.
