WILLIAMS GROVE, Penn. (June 9) - The Kentucky Colonel reigned supreme at Williams Grove Speedway on Tuesday night as Steve Francis dominated the 40-lap feature for super late models.

Rick Eckert started alongside Darryl Hills on the front row and won the drag race into the first corner to set the early pace.

Francis started third and moved into the runnerup spot on lap two. The Ashland, Kentucky resident drove by Eckert with an outside move exiting turn three on the third circuit and never looked back.

Despite numerous caution periods Francis was never challenged as he cruised to his first career victory at Williams Grove.

The current World of Outlaws late model division point leader and former champion had come east to compete in the inaugural Appalachian Mountain Super Late Model Speedweek, a series of seven races at seven different tracks on seven consecutive nights.

Tuesday night's race was the fourth leg of the series and Francis earned $5000 for his performance. Eckert stayed within striking distance during the middle stages, but had nothing for Francis at the end and settled for a $2000 second place finish.

Josh Richards started eighth and took third place from D. J. Myers on lap 23. He moved in to challenge Eckert briefly but finished a solid third to claim a $1500 payoff.

Myers was fourth and Hills completed the top five.

Colby Frye, Austin Hubbard, Jeff Rine, Dan Stone and Frankie Plessinger finished in positions six through ten respectively.

Rick Eckert set fast time in qualifications with a lap of 19.770.

Heats for the 49 late models in competition were won by Eckert, Hubbard, Francis and Richards.

Stone and Nathan Durboraw claimed the consolation races.
