FRANKLIN, Penn. (May 31) - The Bear Lake Banzai, Boom Briggs arrived late Sunday at Tri City Speedway after his capturing a win in Michigan the night before and when he rolled his car out of his hauler, there sat a Chub Frank 1* machine. Briggs, borrowed a backup car from CFR as his primary mount went south with a engine problem following his win the night before. Different car, same result, as Boom sailed to his third Northern Tier Inc. ULMS victory in the 1* ride.

A pair of two time Northern Tier Inc. ULMS champions, Dick Barton and Bob Close set the pace for the $2500 to win, 30 lap sprint. The two veterans charged down the front stretch and it was Barton with a slight edge over Close on lap one with Rob Blair and Briggs in tow. Close would snag the lead from Barton on lap two. With five in the books it was still Close and his silver anniversary #04 GRT in front with May 3rd Tri City ULMS winner, Blair and Briggs charging after the Razor like a pack of wolves. The quick mover was Jason Dupont, who started dead last and was up to thirteenth by lap five and charging to the top ten. Blair would make his move on Close on laps seven and eight and eventually make the pass on lap eight for the lead in turn three as lap traffic started to come into play. Close would not hold sit back as he charged back beside Blair's silver anniversary #W11 Rocket. The yellow would come out on lap nine as Dupont had spun in turn one after charging past eleven cars in nine laps only to see himself go back to the rear of the field. The top five were Blair, Close, Briggs, John Mollick and local favorite, Matt Lux.

As lap ten clicked off the board a new car entered the fray. Toronto, Ohio's, John Mollick quickly adapted to Tri City Speedway and got around Briggs for third and had the lead duo within reach. Blair started to pull away from Close. Briggs would charge back by Jammin John Mollick for third on lap twelve and as the field reached the halfway point, it was Blair, Briggs now in second with Close beginning to fade in third over Mollick and Lux. Dave Hess Jr was in sixth and charging to up on Mollick and Lux. Blair and Briggs went door to door and on lap seventeen it was Briggs making the pass for the lead over Blair. With ten to go, Briggs seemed to be opening up daylight over Blair as Close, Mollick and Dave Hess battled for third. Hess would go to fourth on lap twenty-two as Jared Miley picked off seventh position on the extreme outside groove.

Blair found the forward bite again and with five to go he tracked down the Bear Lake Banzai for the lead again as the top two cars in the Oreilly All Star Series went at it. Close was doing all he could to fend off the challenges of Hess, Lux, Mollick and a very fast moving Jared Miley. The Titusville Terror made a last lap effort to get his nemesis, Briggs but this time it was Briggs defeating Blair in a swap of the top two finishers from the May 3rd ULMS event at Tri City. Jared Miley using the extreme outside groove swept around Close and Lux on the final turns for third. Close came home fourth in his best ever finish at Tri City, while local driver, Lux was fifth. The remaining top ten were: Hess, Mollick, Mike Blose, Brent Rhebergen and Jeff Hoffman.

A very happy, Briggs in victory lane commented, "We picked up a win last night in Michigan but the car was sidelined with motor problems. When we got back to the shop we "swapped" cars and "borrowed" this one from my cousin, Chub Frank. Since we were able to pick up a win, I am sure he won't be upset with us," stated Briggs. "We wanted to try some things for the All State Late Model event here in a few weeks and we certainly learned some valuable information tonight."

The win was Briggs, third career Northern Tier Inc. ULMS win. Briggs primary mount is sponsored by Horton Equipment, Sobera Family Chiropractic CJ Auto Transport, Briggs Transport, Sunset Dairy, American Racer Tire, GW Performance, Custom Racing Engines and Rocket Chassis. Heat events earlier in the evening were captured by Ron Davies, Briggs, Mike Blose.

The Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Models will be action next on Friday, June 12 at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio.
