Chuck Griffith LAKEVILLE, Ohio (May 16) - After two weeks of rain drenched conditions, The New Lakeville Speedway fans and drivers were blessed with near perfect weather as the third night of the 2009 racing season afforded everyone a great night of racing action. Four new winners went to the podium as the feature winners on Farmers Bank and Savings night.
Mike Lonas, who has over 60 feature wins since 1994, drove his Fultz Fabrication, Smittley Towing sponsored entry to his first win of the year in the Hamlin Racing Engines Late Model A Main. Lonas had finished second in the heat and had redrew for the pole starting position. He wasted no time in blasting into turn one at the point with Jay McDougal in tow. By lap seven, lap traffic became an issue, however the veteran driver weaved his way through without even a scratch as did second place runner McDougal with the 2008 track champ, J.R. Gentry in third and Ryan Eddleblute in fourth. Behind the top four, Blaine Aber and two time winner Charlie Duncan was battling with Eric Eicholtz also trying to find the groove to move into the top five. As the laps ticked off, Lonas completely separated himself from the rest of the field, however the second through seven place cars were locked in a great side by side battles. Early in the event, it appeared the Coby Bartram and Matt Irey were going to be contenders for a top five finish, however Irey rolled to a stop on the high side of turn four and was towed into the pits with a tenth place finish and Bartram finished seventh. Looking back up front Lonas was never challenged for the lead as the race for second heated up between McDougal and Eddleblute. That battle lasted for five solid circuits until on lap twenty two, McDougal's ride coasted to a stop and he was scored with a ninth place finish. Charlie Duncan attempted a late race charge but only gathered in sixth place. Lonas actually coasted to the win with Eddleblute taking second, Gentry third, Aber with his fourth place finish took over the point lead and Eicholtz getting fifth. Heat wins went to Aber and Eddleblute.
