PORTLAND, Ore. (December 10) - Tangent, Oregon driver Trevor Glaser is the 2008 Latemodelracer.com Gary Jacob Memorial Western Rankings Champion for the 2nd consecutive year. Glaser, primarily racing at his home track of Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon, racked up 29 starts in 2008 which include appearances in Arizona, Nevada, Washington, and Oregon.

While Glaser's win total was down a bit this year from his 2007 performance, he rose to the top of the rankings based on his remarkable consistency. Glaser also clinched is 4th consecutive Track Championship at Willamette and just narrowly missed clinching the Bud I-5 Series Championship for the 4th time, this year finishing a close second to Rob Mayea of Bend, Oregon.

Here's a quick glance at Glaser's stats from 2008:
- 4 Wins (3 at Willamette and 1 at Cottage Grove (Ore.) Speedway)
- 8 second place finishes
- 3 third place finishes
- 3 fourth place finishes
- 4 fifth place finishes
- A total of 22 top 5 finishes in 29 starts
- 3 top 5 finishes, including a 3rd, at the Wild West Shootout at Central Arizona Raceway in January

Latemodelracer.com caught up with Glaser by phone this week and put some questions to the Oregon driver, and here's what he had to say:

LMR: What was your best race of 2008 and why?
Glaser: "That's pretty hard for me to answer because I got 2nd too many times (laugh)… Probably the best race we won was at Cottage Grove in September because of the track. The racing was good and it was different for us because the fast cars started in the front, and we normally race with a full invert. That change made me race differently than I normally do because we don't race like that. It was probably the most fun I had all year."

LMR: Ok, so what was your worst race of 2008 and why?
Glaser: "We never really had a bad race, just a few bad outcomes because of things we couldn't control. Just some bad luck at a few races due to some weird part failures. Elma in September was the most disappointing because that was the best car I have ever had there and there wasn't anything we could have done to prevent that problem from arising [Ed.- Glaser's cross member broke]. I lost the fan belts at Willamette leading and the engine overheated, lost a brake line, just a few things like that. I was leading at Casa Grande in January when the power steering went out and got 3rd; that is disappointing because we probably should have won, but I still got 3rd against some good competition."

LMR: What was your biggest accomplishment of 2008?
Glaser: "I would say taking on a whole new car [Ed.- Glaser switched from MastersBilt Chassis to Trak-Star Race Cars in the off season] and not really missing a beat with it. We were more consistent than ever, and scored 3 top 5 finishes right out of the box at Casa Grande in January. For me, it is mainly taking a new, somewhat

unproven brand of car, and quickly making it work. I think that shows we can adapt well. This was our most consistent season ever."

LMR: Did you meet your goals for 2008?
Glaser: "Our goal was to run our normal deal, Willamette and the I-5 Series, and we wanted to win both championships, but we just missed out on the I-5 deal this year. We wanted to be up in the rankings, and about mid-season we started to realize that we had a shot at winning it. I didn't meet all of my goals, but I am really happy with what we got and how our season ended up overall. I shoot for 5 wins a season, and this year I only got 4, but I also finished 2nd more than I ever have, so that shows we were very consistent."

LMR: What does it mean to you to win the Latemodelracer.com Gary Jacob Memorial Western Rankings for the 2nd straight year?
Glaser: "It's a pretty big deal. I guess it's the only real way you can compare everyone out here because we don't get to race together much. It's the biggest publicity we get up here, and it is the only ranking system around, and we were able to win it. That's pretty cool. I never thought I'd win it, so to do it twice now is a bit surreal."

LMR: What is your favorite track?
Glaser: "I'd say it is a toss up between Casa Grande [Central Arizona Raceway] or Cottage Grove (Ore.) Speedway. I like them both because of the way you get to race on them. You can use the whole track and run different lines and be fast. They are driver's tracks, but you still have to have the car set up right. It is a toss up for me between the two."

LMR: Who are the toughest competitors you race against in your area?
Glaser: "I'd have to say Rob Mayea, John Duty, Russ Sell, and Tory Swayngim were the toughest this year. Rob is tough week in and week out, but I didn't get to race with him (side by side) as much this year as last year. I raced a lot with John and Tory this year, and along with Russ, they all won a number of races, so they are tough. Jeremy Shank has always been tough, but he seemed to get stronger since he switched to a 4-bar car."

LMR: Is there anyone you'd like to thank?
Glaser: "Dustin Dittman for being there at the shop everyday and keeping my stuff going. He's been with me since 2002. Dustin is very dedicated and loyal and he is a huge asset to my racing program. I also need to thank my family, my fiancé Jenna and her family for all their support. I also need to thank my sponsors for all their help: Pro Seeds Marketing Co., Farmland Tractor Supply, Fisher Farm and Lawn, Ground and Water Inc., Trak-Star Race Cars, Boland Performance, Cadwell/Miller Motorsports, Rob Mayea

Motorsports, and John Duty Racing. I really appreciate all their support."

LMR: What are your goals and what is your schedule for 2009?
Glaser: "It's all up in the air right now. The main goal is to race as much as possible."
