LOS ANGELES, Calif. (December 5) - Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Billy Moyer raced his way to the top of the 2008 LateModelRacer.com Gary Jacob Memorial National Rankings early this season and never looked back in-route to twenty victories (twenty-one overall) while securing Driver of the Year honors from one of the nations premier dirt Late Model websites. Moyer outdistanced Jimmy Owens, 'World 100' winner Shane Clanton, Steve Francis and Josh Richards for top honors. 'Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series' Champion Earl Pearson, Jr., Scott Bloomquist, Jimmy Mars, Brian Birkhofer and Chris Madden rounded out the 2008 top ten.

Moyer began to exercise his dominance of the 2008 season in his Banner Valley Hauling /Cooley Transportation /New Vision Graphics /Karl Chevrolet /Performance Rod & Custom /J&J Steel/ Universal Concrete Platinum Motors & RV /Watters Auto Land/Minx Show Palace /Clements House of Power /Victory Circle M1 Chassis with six wins during Florida Speedweeks, three apiece at East Bay Raceway Park, which culminated in the '2008 Dart Winternationals Championship,' and Volusia Speedway Park.

After a mid-March visit to Victory Lane at the Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway, Moyer would catch fire at the conclusion of the month going back-to-back on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series with $20,000 wins at Pike County (MS) Speedway on March 29th and Farmer City Raceway on April 5th, which was followed up ten days later with another $10,000 win at the Lernerville Speedway April 15th.

Moyer rolled through 2008 Florida Speedweeks with six feature wins

With ten wins in the bank by mid-April, the Batesville, AR pilot began an impressive string of eight top five finishes in his next thirteen events including a third place WoO showing at I-44 Speedway, a runner-up finish in the Lucas Oil 'Diamond Nationals' and four consecutive fourth place runs on the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals Tour.

Moyer would find the Winners Circle once again June 21st at the Lucas Oil Speedway, picking up the win in the $10,000 'O'Reilly Challenge' which featured drivers from seven O'Reilly sponsored dirt racing series. That win catapulted Moyer to an unbelievable mid-Summer run which included two $10,000 wins at Tri-City (IL) Speedway (July 4th Summernationals & July 18th LOLMDS) a Summernationals win at Lake Ozark Speedway and an average finish of 3.5 over eleven events.

Following two more of his thirty-nine (forty-three overall) top five finishes in the 'Firecracker 100' at Lernerville Speedway and 'USA Nationals' at Cedar Lake Speedway, Mr. Smooth came away from the West Liberty Speedway with another $10,000 on August 5th which he follow-up with a Labor Day Weekend 'hat trick' by scoring a second 2008 win at Farmer City Raceway, his fourth 'Prairie Dirt Classic' win at Fairbury

American Legion Speedway, and the inaugural 'Baltes Classic' at the famed Eldora Speedway.

As September began, Moyer's 2008 schedule was smattered with eighteen main event wins, leaving him just two shy of the magic 700 career wins total. Eight more events would pass before win 699 was in the books, a $15,000 victory in Magnolia Motor Speedway's 'Cottin Pickin 100,' for which Moyer utilized a Wall2Wall SPEC engine and spoiler package, a break from the 'Open Competition' combination traditionally found aboard his Victory Circle M1 Chassis.

Late season developments would extended Moyer's season into mid-November as he closed out the 2008 campaign with a trip to Manzanita Speedway for the 'Barnett Harley Davidson Nationals.' That decision would prove fruitful as the familiar red & yellow #21 breezed to back-to-back wins, pocketing another $7,500, wins number twenty & twenty-one on the season, and more importantly Moyer surpassed the 700 career win plateau to now stand at 701.

Those victories would also seal the top spot in the LateModelRacer.com Gary Jacob Memorial National Rankings as Owens and Clanton were mathematically eliminated from contention. Moyer conclude the 2008 season with 71 events entered comprising 92 nights of racing, amassed twenty-one wins, forty-three top fives and forty-nine top ten finishes.

The Gary Jacob Memorial National Rankings record every race in the United States and Canada that pays a minimum $3,000 to win. Each race (eligible Nationally and per Region) awards the top six finishers 9-6-4-3-2-1 points respectively. A second tier has been added for 2008, races that pay

$10,000 to win or more will offer 1.5X points. Double points are awarded in the National Rankings for events that pay $25,000 to win or more.  The Rankings are based upon on track performance during the 2008 season.
