CONCORD, N.C. (October 30) - The VAULT World Finals kicked off on Thursday night with 124 cars taking the track for hot laps, twin qualifying sessions for Friday and Saturday's heat races and "Breaking the VAULT" dash races at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The special three-night event brings the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series together to end their seasons.

With 77 late models posting times, Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., was fastest in the first round of qualifying with a lap of 14.825 seconds, 97.133 mph. Dale McDowell of Chicamauga, Ga., posted the quickest lap in the second session at 14.832 seconds, 97.087 mph.

Don O'Neal was second fastest in the first late model session, followed by Earl Pearson Jr., Josh Richards and points leader Darrell Lanigan. In the second session Owens, O'Neal, Davey Johnson and Shannon Babb rounded out the top five.

Meyers and O'Neal were the last men left standing in their respective "Breaking the VAULT" dash races for the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car and World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

The top five in points and the five fastest qualifiers for each division participated in the dash events. The points leader in each series started off the races by going head-to-head with the competitor of his choice. The winner then advanced to the next round. This process continued until only one car remained. Meyers dominated the sprint car field and took home $3,400. O'Neal was a late draw in the late model dash and won $1,600.

The VAULT World Finals continues Friday and Saturday nights with full slates of racing for both divisions, including twin $10,000-to-win features scheduled each night. Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with opening ceremonies starting at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are just $35 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. They can be purchased online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com or by calling the ticket office at 1-800-455-FANS.
