PROCTOR, Minn. (October 4) - Eveleth's Harry Hanson has been on a tear during the season ending special season. The 36 year veteran has been at the top of his game as he wracked up an enviable streak to finish out the season. Starting with a second place WISSOTA Late Model finish at the Punky Manor Challenge of Champions, Hanson then swept the 33rd annual Red Clay Classic with a heat and feature win.
The finale of his season took him back to the Proctor Speedway where he was the 2008 Late Model seasons champion. This event would be a special one as it combined the annual Proctober Fest and the rained out 36th annual Silver 1000.
Hanson's heat win and passing point total put him on the pole next Jeff Provinzino. Hanson jumped to the lead at the green flag in the 40 lap main event as Provinzino fell into a classic duel with Darrell Nelson. Nelson grabbed the runner up position as the top three distanced themselves from the rest of the field. Seven laps into the event John carpenter took a trip off turn four bringing out what would prove to be the only caution flag. Hanson made a rare mistake on the restart as he was charged with jumping the start and penalized one row putting him inside row number two. Nelson took the lead while Hanson battled with Provinzino with Danny young
fourth and Mike Waseleski fifth. Hanson took second as the field settled down and began clicking off laps and Nelson began to lap the backmarkers. Halfway was reached quickly as the top five remained the same. Running in the top ten were Steve Laursen, Tom Waseleski, Jr., Kyle Peterlin, George Ledin and Travis Budiaslovich. Nelson got caught up in the four car battle around the 15th position letting Hanson close up and get by for the lead. Nelson went to the top shelf and regained the point from Hanson but again a lapped car would play a part as Hanson got by John Meeds but Nelson had a more difficult time making the pass and Hanson put a little distance on him. Hanson was able to hold onto the lead and came home not only the Proctober Fest champion but also won his second Silver 1000 trophy. The rest of the top ten remained the same with the exception of tenth as Dave Esse got by Budiaslovich for the position.
