EASTABOGA, Ala. (October 9) - Ronnie Johnson only led a few feet, but it was the right feet to lead, claiming victory in night number one of the special Nextel Cup Weekend specials at Talladega Short Track on Friday Night.
Johnson powered to the outside going into turn three and won by a nose over Tim Busha. Terry Smith finished in the third spot with Danny Peoples fourth and early race leader Todd Morrow in fifth.
One-Hundred-Seventy-Five cars entered the pit area which forced track officials to run consolation races in the Super Latemodels, Crate Latemodels and Limited Latemodels.
The special Nextel Cup Drivers Match race was won by David Reutimann over Regan Smith in second and David Gilliland in third followed by Ken Schrader, Red Farmer and Brendan Gaughan.
At nights end Adam Martin, the 2008 Nesmith East Region Champion was sitting in Victory lane in the Crate Latemodel division. The 2007 Nesmith East Region Champion Logan Yates finished the race in second spot with Tyler Hurst third.
Michael Strickland won the Limited Latemodel feature event over Michael Williams in second and Parrish Duncan third.
In IMCA Modified action Jimmy Hiett claimed victory over Scottie Hiett in second and David Griffin third. Scott Magouirk won the Thundercar feature over Tony Miles in second and Bobby Joe Robinson in third. Michael Skelton won the Street Stock feature while Mike Tweedy won the Hot Shot feature.
