NEW RICHMOND, Wisc. (September 27) - The final night of the FYE Motorsports promoted Badger State Nationals closed out the racing season at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday September 27. Joel Cryderman earned the title in the late model division by leading all 50 laps enroute to the victory while fellow Thunder Bay, Ontario native Jeff Marshall took top honors in the Midwest modifieds. Chris Peterson claimed the $1,000 top prize for his street stock feature win, and Eric Barth came back from a wreck the previous night to win the Legends main event on a cool autumn evening.

The final race of the 2008 season motored trackside with 25 high-powered late model competitors set to do battle for 50 racing laps. Preliminary feature winners Lance Mathees and Joel Cryderman paced the field. Mathees got the jump at the start, but his lead was nullified when Caley Emerson spun in turn three on the opening lap requiring a complete restart. This time Joel Cryderman grabbed the lead over Mathees. Jake Redetzke got by Mathees for second a couple laps later with Pat Doar and Brent Larson close behind. As the laps clicked by, 9th starter Chad Mahder was on the move forward. Mahder moved to fifth on lap 11, fourth on lap 13, and got by Mathees for third on lap 16. The yellow light blinked on with 18 laps in when Eric Breeschoten stalled on the backstretch and required wrecker assistance with a broken rear-end in his car. At this point Cryderman continued to lead Redetzke, Mahder, Mathees and Doar. Just two laps after the green replaced the yellow, Doar moved up to fourth while Don Shaw moved from seventh to fifth. The leaders encountered lapped traffic 34 laps into the race with the top five of Cryderman, Redetzke, Mahder, Doar and Shaw remaining unchanged until the caution appeared with 39 laps in for Chuckie DeSmith's stalled car in turn four. One lap later, Shaw moved past Doar and Chad Mahder into third. The final caution slowed the pace with 42 laps scored for a five car pileup in turn four. On the restart, Shaw got by Redetzke for second but could advance no further during the final seven laps. Joel Cryderman turned in a very strong run to earn the victory in the inaugural Badger State Nationals, leading all 50 laps in a dominating performance. Don Shaw, Jake Redetzke, Pat Doar and Chad Mahder completed the top five. Steve Laursen, Brent Larson, Lance Mathees, Rick Hanestad and Jeff Wildung rounded out the top ten. Eighteen of the 25 starters finished the race.
