WAYCROSS, Ga. (September 20) - As the National Late Model Series thundered into Waycross Motor Speedway for its third visit of the year, anticipation was high.  Would Jimmy Lee Davis seep the National Late Model Series races at Waycross or would Dusty Cone, Mike Carter or someone else stop him?

Qualifying began with Tom Jones, Jr. leading the field.  Most qualified in the low to mid 17s.  Mike Carter, however, showed all that mid 16s can be run at Waycross.  Carter was not to be beaten for the pole and he held the evening title of Optima Trailers Fastest Qualifier.   The only other driver qualifying in the 16s and joining Carter on the front row was Jimmy Lee Davis.

Mike Carter led the field to the green flag, but was not able to hold first place for long.  Throughout the first 18 laps without a caution, drivers worked their way through the field vying for position.  As Jimmy Lee Davis took the lead from Carter, third place starter Cale Simons took second position and did all he could do to try and pass Davis.  Mike Carter began having engine problems and dropped out of the race early.

Only one other caution was called during the race, when Scott Crews went low in turn four and found on his maneuver Tyler Ivey and Brandon Cameron.  Bo Allen, fourth place starter, fought hard to hold third place for most of the 40 laps, but fell victim to Mark Whitener's race to the front at the restart on lap 37.  During these two long runs in the race, spectators watched Johnny Collins in Chuck Chitty's car, work his way from the tail of the field to thirteenth.  Russell Brown, Jr. started tenth and worked his way to fifth.  David Whitener began at the fifteenth position and worked his way through the field to eleventh.  Brandon Cameron was not having a good night, but finished a solid eighth.

But on this late September evening in Waycross, the track and the win belonged to Jimmy Lee Davis.  Davis completed a sweep of the three trips to Waycross Motor Speedway with the National Late Model Series.  Cale Simons held on for second (his best finish this season) and Mark Whitener held on for third.

Next up for the Series Cochran Motor Speedway for a 2-day, $5,000.00 to win feature event October 3 and 4, 2008.  Practice will be Thursday night.  See ya' at the track.
