Steve Hixson
RINGGOLD, Ga. (September 19) - Dominating a pair of other area dirt tracks, with multiple wins this season, Rick Hixson collected his first win of the season Friday night at Boyd's Speedway, on the Tennessee/Georgia stateline. A full field of Steel-Head Late Models signed in for action that saw three and four-wide racing, through-out the field. Hixson starting around the 3rd or 4th row of the feature seemed to be regulated to a possible top 5 finish on the night. Then disaster hit the lead duo, when Ruben Mayfield hit the turn 4 banking, crashing and collecting # 2 man Jason Cardwell. Hixson got banged up in the incident and had very visable damage to the right-front suspension of his white # 16 'Austin Trucking, BJ's Flooring, Gene's Racing Parts' sponsored MasterSbilt, Ford Fusion racecar, but decided to continue. Inherit the lead, Andy Miller, which gave new life to not only Hixson, but last weeks winner THE LAWMAN Mike Tinker.
Hixson tried high and then low, working on his Dunlap, Tennessee competition, trying to hold back Tinker and recent dominator Kayne Hickman in the process. The TENNESSEE TORNATO, who's won six (6) features this season at Boyd's, spun his mount, allowing Miller to cool the tires before the restart. Tinker and Miller would battle, but Hixson's high line would come in and the Soddy Daisy based racer build a strong lead as the 25 lap feature waned towards the end. Miller would hold off Tinker on his low-line with Dykie Gentry following. Hickman somehow rallied by inches at the checkers over Scott Boyd for 5th overall. Hixson, a 25(+) year racing veteran owns a pair of MasterSbilt chassis' and regularly switches divisions, between the Crate Late Models and the Steel-Head Late Models depending on the schedule. Hixson recently picked-up Top Tracks Crate Challenge series event worth $2,000. and won two of three TRIPLE-CROWN races.
