LEBANON, Ore. (August 30) - Russ Sell long ago established himself as one of the greatest drivers in the history of Willamette Speedway.

A three-time Outlaw class champion at the 1/3-mile clay oval, the driver out of Brownsville is still competitive each week in his second half century, as witnessed by his third place points position in the Outlaw Late Models and points lead in the Super Sports.

Saturday night, Sell again showed the competition how good he is.

The driver of the No. 50, who started the main event in the fourth position, took the lead coming to the caution flag on the 11th lap and was never challenged over the remainder of the 40 laps for his second A-Main event victory in the class and ninth A-Main victory overall in the 2008 season.

Bob Boyd of Albany ran second to Sell the final 27 laps for the runner-up position. Points leading and three-time defending champion Trevor Glaser of Tangent had another solid points night by coming from the 14th starting spot to place third. Mark Carrell of Redmond placed fourth and Tory Swayngim of Sodaville rounded out the top five.

Rob Mayea of Bend, second in Outlaw points, drove determined all night, winning the B-Main event from the 14th starting spot before dicing his way through the A-Main event field to place seventh after starting 17th. Jayme Van won the Outlaw C-Main event.

Youth and exuberance beat out the age of Sell in the Super Sport A-Main event, his second of the season.

Joey Tanner of Portland, second in points in the Warriors of Dirt series, passed Sell, the class points leader, with nine laps to go and went on to win the main event. Sell placed second and Ron Burchard of Philomath was third.

Keith Marson of Molalla won the Super Sport B-Main event.

Mike Bennett of Estacada held off Brian Cronk to win his fourth Sportsman A-Main event of the season and extend his points lead as second-place Jason Sommer had problems and didn't race in a main event. Six cars were running at the end of the main event after a dramatic crash in the early stages of the race wiped out half of the 12 starters.

Dan Kingsberry won the Classic Sportsman A-Main event after holding off a furious charge from Kevin Roberts.

Bob Wescott of Portland won the Western Racing Series' main event from the ninth starting position with a straightaway margin of victory.

Willamette Speedway's racing program was rained out Sunday night.

The track returns to action Saturday night with all of the regular classes in action.
