Bob Appleget CLEVELAND, Tenn. (August 30) - Jamie Perry scored his second Late Model win of the season at Cleveland Speedway Saturday night.
With the drop of the green flag Perry, who started on the pole, would take the lead on the first lap and lead every lap to take the win. Point leader and fellow front row starter Randy Burrows would keep Perry honest until lap 22 when he fell off the pace and brought out the third caution of the night. With Burrows out Dusty Carver would move into second and hold the spot to the checkered flag.
With five laps to go Johnny Chastain, who started sixth, would move past Jason Welsham for third. Welsham would battle back three laps latter to return the favor and retake the third spot. Welsham would finish third, Chastain fourth and Gabe Wilson fifth.
Cody Barnett, Shawn Reece, David Gamble, Kenny Ford and Dewayne Powell rounded out the top 10.
John Ownbey never led a lap in the Limited/Crate Late Model feature, but was credited with the win in the final tally.
Trig Parris would lead the first eight laps of the 20-lap feature before he was shuffled to third by Jamie Cardwell. When Caldwell moved into the top spot Ownbey would move past Parris for second. Cardwell would lead the remaining laps with Ownbey running second. With three laps to go Devin Dilbeck would pass Parris for third. On the white flag lap Bobby Doss would move into the top five when he passed Richard Dixon.
When the checkered flag fell it was Cardwell first across the line followed by Ownbey, Dilbeck, Parris and Doss. After he refused a post race protest Cardwell was out and everyone moved up a spot with Dixon back in fifth.
Devin Stuart came within one lap of ending Tanner Works win streak at 16. Pole sitter Stuart would take the lead on the first lap and hold off Greg Brown for the first 14 laps before Works, who started seventh on the grid, moved into second. Jim Twiggs would follow Works and settle into third with Brown fourth and Chris Stewart fifth.
Works would stalk Stuart for the next four laps before taking the lead on the white flag lap. Stuart would settle for second, Twiggs third, Brown fourth and Stewart fifth.
Arva Brooks took the lead on the first lap and never looked back as he led every lap to take a convincing win over Patrick Harvey in B-Hobby action. Chuck Heling was third, Shane Nunley fourth and Sonny Graves fifth.
Michael Anderson, who leads the B-Hobby point battle, finished sixth and picked up points on Chad Collins, who didn't race. Collins', who trailed Anderson by 24 points, also allowed Graves, Harvey and Heling to gain ground. There are five point races left in the season to determine the champions in all divisions.
David Goode was good enough Saturday night to take the Pony feature win. He would pass early leader Grady Stokes when Stokes faltered on lap three and hold off Jimmy Brown for the next 13 laps to take his third win of the season. Brown would take second as he held off Sean Truelove, Danny Burnette and Nick Webb.
Taking the lead on the third lap Dustin Cansler rolled to take the Front Runner feature win. Brad Cross was second, John Petty third, James Bragg fourth and Hailey Cresswell fifth.
As the regular season winds down with just five races remaining to determine the 2008 champions in all divisions next Saturday night will feature racing in all divisions. Super Late Models will highlight the card that will include Limited/Crate Late Models. A&B Hobby, Pony and Front Runners.
