LEBANON, Mo. (August 29) - Fresh off a DLRA/MARS Challenge event Thursday night at the Springfield Raceway, Jeremy Payne will be setting on the pole for the 7500 to win 750 to start 40 lap Late Model feature for the running of the 6th annual Larry Phillips Memorial at the I-44 Speedway on Saturday night.

Besting a talented field of cars for the 1st night of Qualifying at the I-44 Speedway, Payne paced himself to grab the lead from early leader Jack Sullivan and then held off repeated challenges from defending event winner Terry Phillips.

Friday night featured a 20 lap qualifying feature in which only 10 cars locked into the Sat Night Main event while the rest of the field will fill out Sat night.

As the 20 car field took the green, it was Jack Sullivan to grab the early lead from Justin Wells with Payne and Brad Looney following. The races only caution flew on lap 3 as Jesse Stovall who was riding the top groove in 8th place spun in turn 3. It was determined Stovall had the steering sector come loose. On the restart Sullivan shot ahead of Payne as Terry Phillips who started 6th, was using the top groove and coming forward. Leader Sullivan and Payne ran side by side for several laps until lap 13 when Payne made the winning pass in turn 2. Sullivan would then find Terry Phillips running the top groove as they battled for position while the action behind found several spots being swapped. As the field ran the race quickly, Payne would grab the win and earn the pole for Saturday night's A feature with Terry Phillips getting around Sullivan on the last lap to make it a Team Phillip front row as Sullivan fell to third with a missing motor. Brad Looney, Wendell Wallace who started 11th, Bill Frye, Justin Wells, Chris Jones, Will Vaught and Tony Jackson Jr completed the top 10 locking into the feature.

New Cars are welcomed to attempt to make the features.

Sat Night will feature features along with DLRA/MARS Late Model Heats and a B feature if needed.
