FORT PAYNE, Ala. (August 16) - Robert Stutts of Murfreesboro, TN swept the Super Late Model show on Saturday night at Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Stutts drove his Robert Parks Realty Rocket to fast time honors and then outran Robert Gant of Flat Rock, AL in the 25 lap feature race for the victory.

"I really like this race track because the fans are great and I enjoy coming here," Stutts said. "The track is real racy and there is a lot of room to pass, especially in lapped traffic. I look forward to coming back again."

Stutts needed all of the room he could get, as heavy lapped traffic enabled Gant to close on Stutts in the closing laps, but Stutts was able to hang on, and Gant had to settle for second spot. Kyle May of Fort Payne, AL took the third spot, and Chris Beck of Cedar Bluff, AL came back from an early race spin to finish fourth.

Chad Stone of Section, AL was fifth, and Jason Williams of Scottsboro, AL finished sixth. Dee Vaught of Langston, AL took the seventh spot, Bobby Pruitt of Gadsden, AL was eighth, Bryan Grider of Bridgeport, AL finished ninth, and Will Vaught of Langston, AL rounded out the top ten.

Stutts took the lead from the pole position at the start of the race followed by Gant, May, Beck, and Stone. The leader set a fast pace, as he was lapping cars by the sixth lap. The first of two caution flags came out on lap 6 when Beck spun in turn two. Stutts had lapped all of the way up to the eighth place car, so Beck restarted in the seventh spot.

Marty May spun on the restart in turn four to bring out the yellow flag, and Stutts took off on the next restart, pulling out to a half-straightaway lead by the 12th lap. Stutts was mired in heavy lapped traffic for the second half of the race, which enable Gant to cut the gap down to eight car-lengths by lap 22. That's as close as Gant could get, as Stutts rolled to the checkered flag.

Stutts out-timed the 16-car field in qualifications with a lap around the 3/8-mile clay oval in 14.733 seconds. With fast time, and leading every lap to the win, Stutts recorded a clean sweep for the evening.

Blake Stewart of Centre, AL also pulled off a clean sweep in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division. Stewart won the 20-lap feature race and the first heat race in the Parodi and Welch, Inc./Cash Store Warrior, leading every lap he turned during the evening. Jarrod Greene of Rome, GA was second, followed by second heat winner Jimmy Kay of Taylorsville, GA.

Johnny Bell of Hammondville, AL drove his Pro-Formance Specialties machine to victory in the 15-lap A-Hobby Stock feature race, and Davey Arnold of Fort Payne, AL took his second straight B-Hobby Stock 15-lap feature race win in the Marty May Racing entry. Robert Knight of Fort Payne, AL was the winner in the 12-lap Pony Stock feature race.

Fort Payne Motor Speedway will return to action on Saturday night, August 23 with the Super Late Models, NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Models featuring double points, A- Hobby Stocks, B-Hobby Stocks, and Pony Stocks in action on the 3/8-mile clay oval. Gates open at 5 p.m., with racing scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
