Moler Raceway Park WILLIAMSBURG, Ohio (August 15) - A standing room only crowd paid tribute to The man with a dream August 15th.
The 2nd Annual Victor "Ike" Moler Memorial Event at Moler Raceway Park brought out the big dogs as 35 late models showed up to try and take home the $3,000 and the 8 foot Southern Trophy (sponsored by Mike Jewell). In qualifications it was the 1x machine of Johnny Wheeler taking the top spot with a 13.783 lap. The only other competitor in the 13 second bracket was local driver Bill Williams with a 13.911 lap. With the top six qualifiers locked into the A-main it put Eddie Carrier Jr (6th fastest) on the pole of the Howser's Discount Fuel and Garage sponsored Dash event. In what was a short lived battler Carrier took the win with Batavia's Josh Tidwell coming home second followed by Victor Lee, Steve Landrum, Johnny Wheeler, and Bill Williams. In heat race action the racing was furious as everyone wanted to be one of the top four finishers to qualify for the A-Main event. Winning the three heat races were Audie McWilliams, John Whitney Jr, and Wayne Maffett Jr.. In the B-Main there were 22 cars battling for the top four spots with Mike Jewell taking the 12 lap last chance event. In the fifty lap event it was Josh Tidwell jumping out to lead the first 9 laps before a furious three wide battle ensued on a restart between Eddie Carrier Jr, Josh Tidwell, and John Whitney Jr. Those three guys were three wide for 3 full laps before Carrier took control of the top position. Throughout the middle portions of the race Whitney ran second with Steve Landrum running third but as the laps ran down it was Audie McWilliams on the move as he began a charge from his 7th starting position and picked off the cars before finally getting by Landrum on lap 41 for third and then by Whitney three laps later. A caution on lap 46 set the stage for a battle up front but Eddie Carrier Jr. in his Grover Motorsport machine was able to hold off McWilliams' advances and take home the $3,000 and the 8 foot Southern Trophy that father Eddie Sr. was never able to win when racing at the old Southern Ohio Raceway. Finishing behind Carrier Jr was Audie McWilliams, John Whitney, Steve Landrum, and Jesse Lay.
Moler Raceway Park will return next week August 22nd with "Back to School Night" featuring the Sunesis Construction Late Models, Cheapbowlingballs.com U.M.P Modifieds, Phantom Fireworks Pure Stocks and Baker's Bright Chevettes. Gates open at 4:30, hot laps 7:00 and racing at 8:00.
