JAMAICA, Va. (August 9) - Chris Madden of Gaffney, SC captured Saturday night's 29th Annual Miss Utility USA 100 presented by the US Army at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA in dominating fashion leading all 50 laps of the $10,000 to win feature for victory in his #44 Hamrick of Gaffney, SC / Henderson Amusement / Century Plastics / Swiftco / Cornet Racing Engines powered Ford Fusion Bloomquist.
When the smoke cleared Madden had a clean sweep of the night's event's picking up the Alturna Mats Shock the Clock time trials, a victory in his $1000 to win qualifier and the 50 lap "A" Main.
Madden and Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD led the field to green with Madden gaining control out of turn 2 followed by Rick Eckert of York, PA.
The races first caution would fly early of lap 1 when Colby Fry spun his ride in turn 3. On the restart madden jumped out to a comfortable lead.
On lap 10 Tim Fuller began his assault on defending race winner Jason Covert for fourth, finally taking the spot on lap 13. A caution on lap 16 closed the field back up on Madden for the restart. heading into turn 3 Fuller jumped to the high side taking third form Lathroum.
By lap 20 Madden had extended his lead over Eckert to fifteen car lengths. As the two began working traffic Eckert was able to close the gap but could never get close enough to mount a serious charge for the lead.
A couple of cautions would close the gap back to the bumper of madden but on the restarts Eckert wasn't able to pull the trigger on a pass for the lead.
With the laps winding down the battle was for third as Lathroum, Fuller and Doug Horton raced three wide for the position.
Madden would cruise to the victory picking up a total of almost $12,000 for the win. Following madden to the checkers were Rick Eckert, Jamie Lathroum, Tim Fuller and Doug Horton rounding out the top five.
"Man we worked hard to come up here, we heard that the American Racer tires were wearing them out up here, we worked real hard on a good program to put on a good show and win the race for Hoosier Tires," commented Madden in victory
"This is my kind of track, a big fast track; that's when Scott's (Bloomquist) cars work the best. We've had an up and down year so it feels real good to get a win in this prestigious event," added Madden.
In other action Tim Shelton of Fredericksburg, VA led all 25 laps of the Truckin Thunder Sportsman feature to get his fourth win of the season. Shelton had to endure a green, white, checkered finish that included a little bumper tag from Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA.
In the Budweiser Modified 25 lap feature it looked as if it was going to come down to a three way battle for the win between Page Harrison, Matt Marshall and Bret Hamilton. Harrison led the first 18 laps before a red flag came out for a wreck in turn 2. Once the cars were back under way Harrison was unable to get the car started handing the lead to Marshall. Over the final seven laps Marshall had to fend off the advances of Hamilton to get his fifth win in another close finish.

Competitor gates for Saturday, August 16th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps.
Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday August 16th: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (25 Laps); New Generation Racing Sprint Cars (25 Laps); and the VMS Limited Stocks (20 Laps). All divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.
Adult admission is just $10, Senior and Military $8, Students 13 -17 yrs old $7, Children 7 - 12 yrs old $4 and Children 6 and under free. The Speedway offers a Family Pack for two adults and two children 12 and under for only $20.
Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
