Roby Helm CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (August 5) - Jim Moon of Zionsville, IN and Mark Clifton of Brewton, AL were the big winners Saturday night in Week 19 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action. Mother Nature, however, topped that by causing four events to be called off.
Moon picked up his second straight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region win at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier, IN, and took over the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Indiana State point lead from Steve Barnett of Franklin, IN.
The NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Indiana State points have also been earned this season at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN, who will present a double points event this Saturday night.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region event at Fort Payne Motor Speedway in Fort Payne, AL was called off during the racing program on Saturday night with a 20-car field on hand when lightning struck a transformer and took out the track lights. Track officials will make up the event on August 16. Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL was also rained out on Saturday night.
Clifton captured his 10th win of the season on Saturday night in NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. The win vaulted Clifton up to the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region point standings.
NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West events at Southern Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS on Friday night and Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS on Saturday night were both rained out.
Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region standings over Adam Martin of Talladega, AL, Blake Stewart of Centre, AL, Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, Dana Eiland of Salem, AL, Anthony Meadows of Lanett, AL, Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL, Dillon Crim of Eastaboga, AL, and the defending East Region Champion Logan Yates of Delta, AL
The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS leads the West Region standings followed by Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL, Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL, and Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS.
Following Clifton in the seventh through tenth spot respectively in the West Region point standings are Tracy Sutton of Brewton, AL, Herman Reynolds of Laurel, MS, Talbert Goldman of Meridian, MS and Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS.
