COAL GROVE, Ohio (August 1) - Double Points Night" headlined the next to last Friday night race of the season at Rocky Top on August 1st. With Todd Robinson clinching the Tomahawk Race Car Modified track championship last Friday, two more drivers would clinch this week. Jackie Boggs clinched his first RTR Late Model track championship. If Boggs scores no points next week and Terry Hicks win, then Boggs and Hicks would tie. However, if that would be the scenario, Boggs would win the tiebreaker by number of wins. Wayne Hughes clinched his second RTR Bomber track championship in a row.

In the 30 lap Late Model A-Main, Terry Hicks took the lead at the start while Jackie Boggs settled in right behind him. Hicks and Boggs put on a show the first six laps as they swapped running the high and low sides nearly every corner on a high speed track that saw the fast groove right up against the wall. On a lap seven restart, Boggs looked to the inside of Hicks and made it stick off of turn four to take the lead!

With Boggs now in front and hooked up on the high side, all eyes were on the battles back through the pack as cars went two and three wide nearly every lap on a racing surface where cars could run anywhere on the track. Meanwhile, Boggs dominated the final parts of the race to claim his seventh win of the season! Terry Hicks finished second with Josh McGuire third, Jamie Ferguson fourth, and Greggie Oliver fifth. Hicks won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while Butch Dowdy and Tre Martin won Engines Inc. heat races.

In the Tomahawk Race Car Modified A-Main, polesitter Randy Boggs took the lead at the start. Boggs led the opening lap but had to pull off under caution with a flat tire! That left the lead to J. D. Ritenour as he led the second lap and then spun in turns three and four! Todd Robinson inherited the lead after that and went on to lead the remainder of the race and claim his eighth win of the season! Jason Perry finished second with J. D. Ritenour third, Aaron Fry fourth, and Todd Brumfield fifth. Boggs won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while David Fitzpatrick and Jason Perry won Engines Inc. heat races.

David Dunn took the lead and set sail at the start of the Bomber A-Main. Dunn, just like Jackie Boggs in the Late Models, put his #3 machine right against the cushion and maintained a five car length lead over Wayne Hughes in second. It appeared that Dunn was on his way to victory until he spun and hit the guardrail in turn three coming to the white flag! That left the lead to Wayne Hughes as he held off Brian Sammons to take his seventh win of the season by less than a car length! Sammons finished second with Ronnie Hall third, Rick Butler fourth, and Eric Dennison fifth. John Rayburn and David Dunn won Engines Inc. heat races.

Chris Stone took the lead at the start of the Mod Lite A-Main and dominated to claim his fourth win of the season! Tony Sites finished second with Jerry Cushing third, Harold Kuhn fourth, and Kevin Spencer fifth. Stone and Dale Henry won Engines Inc. heat races.

This Friday, August 8th will be the final Friday night race of the season with the "Les Boggs for Lawrence County Commissioner Twin 25's". It will be an incredible night of racing as big money is up for all classes. Late Models will go 30 laps for $2,000 to win, Tomahawk Race Car Modifieds 25 laps for $1,000 to win, Mod Lites 25 laps for $500 to win, and Bombers 15 laps for $500 to win. General Admission is $12 with Pit Admission $25. Gates open at 4:00 pm with Hot Laps at 7:30 pm.

If rain would happen to hit on August 8th, the races will be ran the following evening on Saturday, August 9th. If that would be the case, all of the above purses will be paid on the 9th with the exception of the Mod Lite special. Mod Lites would run a regular show on August 9th, but their special will be on September 6th. For more information visit www.rockytopraceway.net.
