Jason Shank FRANKLIN, Penn. (July 31) - The 2007 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Rookie of the Year, Matt Lux and his M3 Motorsports, Inc. race team are looking forward to the month of August as July was a month any race team would like to forget. July started off in Ohio on Thursday, July 3rd at Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville where the team competed with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
After finishing sixth in his heat race, Matt would win the B-Main to transfer in to the $10,000 to win 'Crenos 50' at the Zanesville, OH oval. Lux, and his AlturnaMATS® / Equipment World Magazine / DICA / Maloney Tool & Mold / Wedge Motorsports Cornett powered Rocket Chassis #21 would finish the feature event in the 24th position to set them up for a two day, two race MACS weekend at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH.
Matt's weekend didn't get any better when they arrived at Portsmouth. The Friday, July 4th event was postponed until Sunday because of inclement weather. On Saturday the skies cleared up and Lux timed in 11th quick of the 56 cars that took time for the $10,000 to win 'Pepsi 75'. Matt finished fifth in his heat relegating him to the B-Main where he was running a solid second before he lost his oil pump ending his evening.
The following morning, the team's truck driver, Chuck Walter was having chest pains. The team took Chuck to a Kentucky hospital where he had to spend the night after getting stints put in. The M3 Motorsports Inc. team was at the track despite their friend being in the hospital. Lux timed in 16th of 43 and finished second in his heat. Matt started the $5,000 to win event 11th but only lasted one lap after the motor broke on the first circuit putting him 24th in the final rundown. Matt now sits 10th in the 2008 MACS season point standings.
Fortunately, Chuck came away from Portsmouth, OH in better health and has returned to the speedway after taking a few short weeks off.
The rest of July wasn't much better for the M3 Motorsports Inc. team as Matt finished 18th at Lernerville Speedway on Friday the 18th, didn't qualify for the main event at the $5,000 to win Independent Racing Series show at Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY on the 19th, and finished a disappointing 21st at the rain delayed, World of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned 'Firecracker 100' presented by GottaRace.com at Lernerville on Tuesday, July 29th.
Matt and team look forward to bringing in the month of August with tentative plans to attend the 'USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI on August 1st and 2nd. The two day event will pay $50,000 to the winner. The following weekend the team will invade Lernerville Speedway for their regular show and then head south on Saturday, August 9th for Ernie Shelton's 'Topless USA 100' at the immaculate Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA. The $10,000 to win event will be co-sanctioned by MACS and Carolina Clash Series'.
