Jason Shank YORK HAVEN, Penn. (July 31) - Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and the Back-to-Back and defending Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert are looking forward to this upcoming weekend as the Lucas Oil Late Model Series will be in town for a pair of $7,000 to win shows at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, PA on Thursday, July 31st and Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA on Friday, August 1st as well as a $10,000 to win event at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd.
Jason and his Barry Klinedinst Motorsports owned Pre-Mach, Inc. / Red Wing Shoes / Hershey's Racing Engines / Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo #43A was in action this past weekend at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, OH for a World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO) sanctioned, $10,000 to win event on Saturday, July 26th. Covert was the sixth quickest qualifier of the 39 cars that took time and was in a transfer spot in his heat race before getting held up by a lapped car letting defending WoO champion, Steve Francis move under him into the final transfer spot. In the B-Main Jason fought a very ill-handling race car to finish 11th without a transfer spot.
The following day, Sunday July 27th, the team made their way to Hesston Speedway for a $5,000 to win, non-sanctioned event where the Covert's bad luck continued. Jason was battling for position in his heat race when his throttle stuck going into turn one. Covert's Rocket Chassis launched off of the turn one banking down into the wooded area outside of the speedway. Jason climbed from the car unscathed but he was done for the evening.
"At Sharon we qualified well but went the wrong way with our setup after the rain came," Covert said. "I don't really know what happened at Hesston, the throttle stuck and we went for a little bit of a ride. The car was good and I think we would have been good come feature time." Jason continued, "We're really looking forward to this weekend though, we are typically really good at Bedford, Winchester, and Hagerstown. We won $5,000 at Bedford a few weeks ago and ran second at Hagerstown the day after. I just wanted to thank Ernie Davis again for sponsoring that show at Hagerstown back on the 12th of July, opening up the tire rule made for a great show and really showed what those American Racers can do."
The BK Motorsports team will go Lucas Oil Late Model Series racing this upcoming weekend at Bedford Speedway in Bedford, PA on Thursday, July 31st and Winchester Speedway in Winchester, VA on Friday, August 1st as well as a $10,000 to win event at Hagerstown Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd. The events at Bedford Speedway and Winchester Speedway will pay $7,000 to win. Next weekend, August 9th the team will return to Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, VA as the Defending Champions of Ernie Shelton's 'USA 100'. This year's event will pay $10,000 to the winner and will be co-sanctioned by the MACS and the Carolina Clash Series.
