WHEELERSBURG, Ohio (July 31) - R.J. Conley reached victory lane for the fourth time in 2008 last Saturday night, July 26 at the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio! The O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass Dirtcar Series sanctioned a $3,000 to win show at PRP on Saturday. R.J. qualified well and later won his heat race. After starting in the second row for the 40-lap main event, the Wheelersburg, Ohio native took the lead from Jackie Boggs on lap 12 and never looked back en route to his first O'Reilly Battle of the Bluegrass Dirtcar Series triumph. R.J. beat Boggs, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Justin Rattliff, and Josh McGuire to the checkers.
Rod and Delmas Conley were also in action over the July 25-26 weekend. Rod was strong at both the Rocky Top (OH) Raceway on Friday, July 25 and the K-C (OH) Raceway on Saturday, July 26, but unfortunately suffered problems each night. "Hot Rod" cut down a Hoosier tire at Rocky Top and broke a liftbar at K-C, which caused him to finish a disappointing sixteenth on both occasions. Delmas joined Rod at K-C on Saturday for the $2,000 to win regular weekly show. After running second in his heat race, the Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer drove his familiar #71 to a solid fourth place performance in the A-Main behind winner Keith Berner, Ben Adkins, and Greggie Oliver. "It felt good to get back into victory lane, especially in a special event at Portsmouth," quoted R.J. via telephone earlier today. "The track was in excellent condition and you could run all over the place. Our car has been good all year long, but we have had some bad luck here and there that has hindered us from getting into victory lane a few more times. Hopefully, that bad luck is behind us and we can finish the year out on a strong note."
