MUSCATINE, Iowa (July 31) - Brian Birkhofer cashed in his biggest payday of the 2008 racing season to date on Tuesday night, July 29 at the venerable Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. The 2nd Annual 'Firecracker 100,' which was sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, resumed last Tuesday after Mother Nature intervened back on June 28-29. The heat races were completed back in June, as Brian won his competitive heat race to earn a top six starting position for the 100-lap main event.

The Muscatine, Iowa driver drew a number four prior to the 'Firecracker 100' on Tuesday night, which earned him the rights to the outside of the second row. In the early stages of the premier event, Brian stayed inside of the top five and waited to make his move until the last half of the race. The driver known as the "Muscatine Madman" then hounded leader Darrell Lanigan for several laps before grabbing the point on lap seventy. From there until the checkers, Brian paced the stout field to record the $40,000 top prize over Darrell Lanigan, Shannon Babb, Steve Francis, and Billy Moyer. The exciting race was taped by the SPEED Channel cameras for broadcast later in the year.

"It felt awesome to win so close to my favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers," stated Birkhofer today. "There were a lot of Steelers fans in attendance, so hopefully we put on a good show for them. The car got better as the race wore on and I just cruised through the middle of the racetrack. I figured those guys couldn't run 100 perfect laps up there on the cushion, so I just rode for awhile until it was game on at the end of the race. I have to thank my crew for all of their hard work and of course Jimmy and Chris Mars for helping me build this new car. Everything is working great right now and I am really looking forward to Cedar Lake this weekend!"

The Birkhofer Racing team will invade the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin this weekend for two Dirt Late Model events. The World Dirt Racing League (WDRL) Late Model Series will sanction a $5,000 to win show tonight, July 31. The annual 'USA Nationals' will then take center stage at Cedar Lake on Friday and Saturday, August 1-2. A 100-lap main event will headline the weekend on Saturday evening, as a whopping $50,000 paycheck is up for grabs. Brian is a two-time winner and the defending champion of the 'USA Nationals.'
